After turning 70 years old, Al Roker finds himself an empty nester once more. On August 25th, he shared pictures on Instagram showing him taking his 22-year-old son Nick to university. One image captures Roker standing next to his towering son, with his wife Deborah Roberts beside them. In the caption, Roker expressed his sentiments by saying, “Dropped Nick off this afternoon. Can hardly believe we have a college junior! The house feels awfully quiet now.”
Last week, the news anchor who recently became a grandfather in July 2023 (when his daughter Courtney gave birth to baby Sky Lara) shared with PEOPLE that he intends to indulge and pamper his grandchild. He expressed his intention to disregard all the rules for her, allowing her to enjoy as much sweet treats as she pleases.
He humorously added that being a grandparent is great because he can enjoy the fun and then leave, saying, “Okay, she’s all revved up. Here you go. Bye. Got to go. Pop Pop’s got a date with a ghost.”
Roker, in his life, has three children: Courtney (with ex-wife Alice Bell), Leila (aged 25), and Nick. Nick is from his current marriage with Roberts. In July, Roker shared an Instagram post celebrating Nick’s birthday by showcasing a series of throwback photos depicting Nick’s transformation, from a baby without teeth to a mature man sporting a beard.
Roker captioned it, “Seems like just yesterday this beautiful boy came into our lives but #justlikethat Nick is 22 years old. #happybirthday, my young man.” The post also included photos of them boating and at a Mets game.
