As a devoted fan of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I can attest that this TV show has been a constant source of laughter and entertainment for me over the years. The characters are well-developed, the plotlines are engaging, and the humor is consistently spot-on. Here are my top five favorite moments from the series, each one more hilarious than the last.
Over the past ten years, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has established itself as one of the most engaging, humorous, and skillfully produced sitcoms. The central character, Jake Peralta, is renowned for his outlandish ideas, affection for popular culture, and juvenile antics. In more recent times, Jake, played by Andy Samberg who was previously on Saturday Night Live, has earned the status of a television legend.
One way to rephrase that in a more natural and easy-to-read manner is:
10. Jake poses as Kevin to protect him
In the story “Ransom,” it’s Cheddar, the dog belonging to both Kevin and Captain Holt, who gets taken captive. When Frank Kingston requests that Kevin fetch a secret document in return for Cheddar’s safe release, Jake takes action. To truly emulate Kevin, Jake finds it necessary not only to speak like him but also to adopt his appearance – this means dressing in the same style, growing a beard, and donning similar attire as Kevin.
1. The humor in the story arises from Kevin and Jake’s contrasting personalities. Moreover, Captain Holt consistently asks Jake to mimic Kevin’s responses to various bird calls, seemingly believing that the kidnapper would notice. Although Jake’s trick didn’t work out, his dedication to it is worthy of praise. This scene might not be as famous as other Jake moments in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but its subtlety makes it worthier of recognition.
9. Jake admits he doesn’t have a dentist
In the episode titled “Operation: Broken Feather,” Jake mentions to Captain Holt that he plans on having a nutritious morning meal, followed by his unique term for it – a “gummy breakfast burrito.” Captain Holt expresses sympathy towards Jake’s dentist, but Jake assures him that he doesn’t actually have one.
In the TV show Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Jake Peralta’s poor hygiene, nutrition choices, and lax work ethic provide ample opportunities for humorous jabs. One of the funniest and most unsettling scenes involves Jake eating gummy bears for breakfast, casually acknowledging that he doesn’t visit the dentist.
8. Amy and Jake babysit Terry’s children
Whenever Jake and Amy take care of Terry’s children, they discover that using TV shows and treats seems like the most effective way to handle parenting. Jake rationalizes their methods, saying he himself was raised with a lot of screen time and sweets. Once this sinks in, Amy offers comfort to Jake, acknowledging the melancholy of his realization.
This scene might sound unhappy, but it’s hilarious because this show knows how to deliver well-balanced and funny dark humor. A running joke in Brooklyn Nine-Nine is that Jake’s parents weren’t present during his childhood, leading to many witty dialogues about his daddy issues.
7. Jake buys the most expensive wine at a liquor store
In the initial season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Jake impromptu chooses to go to Captain Holt’s birthday bash. Since their relationship wasn’t particularly close at this stage, Terry guides Jake on how to act appropriately in formal gatherings. This included arriving with a bottle of wine as a thoughtful gesture.
As a connoisseur of fine living, I always splurge on the priciest vintage when given the chance, much like our favorite detective, Jake Peralta. Just as he famously asks for the “eight dollarest bottle of wine” on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I too find myself drawn to the most extravagant options, even if it means parting with a grand $1600. Cheers to indulging in life’s finer pleasures!
6. Amy’s comment is totally misunderstood by Jake
In the sixth season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, following their wedding at the end of Season 5, Amy and Jake are enjoying their honeymoon. However, their tranquil romantic escape is disrupted when a downcast Captain Holt unexpectedly shows up, spoiling their vacation. Later on, there’s a misunderstanding between them as Jake doesn’t quite grasp what Amy means when she says “this B needs a C in her A right now” after they manage to get rid of Holt.
In the sitcom, Amy expressed that she required a Coconut as an accessory, which left Jake and the viewers with somewhat inappropriate interpretations due to her innocence and their own assumptions. However, Amy is known for her naivety and nerdy demeanor, while Jake is street-smart, creating many endearing and comical scenes together.
5. Jake solves an important case
In one of Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s most memorable episodes, detectives Jake and Terry take on an unsolved murder case that has lingered for eight years. As they dig for fresh clues, the duo fails to crack the case, leaving Terry disheartened. However, Jake remains persistent in his investigation. Eventually, he tracks down the perpetrator. When confronted with the murderer’s claim of having acted out of love, Jake retorts, “That may be your reason, but it still qualifies as a crime.”
As a lifestyle aficionado, I can’t help but chuckle at the side-splitting delivery of Andy Samberg in that iconic line from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It’s one of those moments that has left audiences in stitches and become a cherished piece of the show’s history. In fact, it’s spawned an internet phenomenon with countless memes revolving around that hilarious dialogue!
4. Jake expects Taylor Swift to write a song about him
Throughout the course of eight seasons on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, there were numerous jokes centered around Jake Peralta’s fondness for Taylor Swift. Initially, Jake confesses that Taylor is his preferred artist as she evokes emotions in him. In an attempt to lift Terry’s spirits, he shares a line from one of her popular songs, “Shake It Off.”
Ultimately, Jake acknowledges being previously held by Taylor Swift’s security team. Moreover, he suspects she could pen a tune about the incident, displaying an unusual perspective. This series draws elements from typical Swiftie fan characteristics. The Swiftie community finds Jake’s fixation on Swifties amusing, and it’s apparent why this is the case. Now that Taylor is experiencing renewed popularity, Jake’s devotion to her seems quite funny.
3. A mistaken “Dad” call from Jake to Captain Holt
Right from the start, there’s been a complex dynamic between Jake and Captain Holt. Jake is known for being carefree, untidy, and always upbeat, while Holt is strict, disciplined, and calm. However, it’s under Holt’s guidance that Jake truly shines. Over time, their bond evolves into a heartwarming mentor-mentee relationship.
In one recent episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Jake inadvertently referred to Captain Holt as “dad.” This slip-up sparked a series of amusing jabs, such as Terry advising him to show respect towards his father figure. Despite Jake’s attempts to wriggle out of the situation, he was unable to do so. The humor lies in its resemblance to students calling their teachers “mom,” making it both comical and awkward for Jake.
2. Jake does not understand the process of internal bleeding
As an ardent fan, I can’t help but put myself in Jake’s shoes. Despite being wounded during a high-speed chase in AC/DC, Jake stubbornly ignores Terry’s plea for rest at home. Deceitfully, he convinces Boyle to accompany him to Atlantic City, with the intention of apprehending the crook. In a harrowing turn of events, Jake is struck by a car while pursuing the villain. Upon encountering Jake in the hospital, Terry learns that Jake downplays his injuries, asserting that all the bleeding is internal – precisely where it should be, according to the doctor.
Despite the fact that internal bleeding can be life-threatening, there’s something incredibly amusing about Jake’s perspective. It’s hard to find a flaw in his reasoning because, logically speaking, all of the blood should remain within the body. This joke is undeniably one of Jake Peralta’s best, and the Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans wholeheartedly concur.
1. Jake Sings ‘I Want It That Way’ with a Lineup of Criminals
In the TV series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, one of the show’s most humorous scenes occurs in an episode titled “DFW.” This scene features Jake Peralta, who is on a mission to find a murderer. The woman whose brother was killed is asked to identify the culprit from a lineup. However, she can only do so when The Backstreet Boys start singing their famous hit, “I Want It That Way,” which the lineup mimics.
As Jake sings along with his group of felons, he grows more and more amusing. A woman then informs Jake that Number 5 was the one who killed his brother, abruptly bringing him back to his senses. There are few TV moments as memorable as Jake’s famous line, “Now number 5,” followed by “I never wanna hear you say, I want it that way” in Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s rendition of I Want It That Way.
