‘Happened Very Quickly’: Eugenio Franceschini on Being Cast as Lily Collins’ New Love Interest in Emily in Paris

As a dedicated follower of Emily in Paris, I must say that the addition of Eugenio Franceschini to the cast feels like a breath of fresh air. His unexpected entry into the show while he was working on another project adds an element of spontaneity that resonates with me, having experienced similar twists and turns in my own life.

As an over-the-moon fan, I can’t help but share the thrilling news that on Tuesday, the enchanting ensemble of Emily in Paris jetted off to the Eternal City, marking the beginning of the second half of our beloved show’s fourth season! This exciting turn of events is giving us all a taste of a “Roman Holiday,” and I couldn’t be more ecstatic!

At the premiere of the second part of the fourth season held in Rome, Franceschini chatted with PEOPLE. He expressed his admiration for Netflix’s role in the show’s triumph and revealed that this chance arose spontaneously during his engagement in various other undertakings.

He mentioned that the surprise package he received was unforeseen since events unfolded rapidly. When he was chosen, he was busy shooting a television show in Italy, leaving him little time to comprehend the situation. He merely plunged right in.

Speaking about his experience on the show, Franceschini shares that it was incredibly enjoyable and he’s eager to see where his character develops in the future. He also mentions the strong connections he’s formed with the cast, particularly Lily Collins, whom he considers his closest friend as they collaborated extensively. In simpler terms, Franceschini, playing Marcello, Emily’s love interest, remarks that he and Lily have become very close friends due to their frequent collaboration on set.

During the second part of the season, Emily encounters difficulties with a fresh coworker, deals with complications in her relationship with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), and, as Mindy (Ashley Park) notes, does something out of character for Emily by boarding a flight to Rome, which is depicted in the trailer.

In the newest sneak peek, Emily is seen discovering Rome and cruising through town on a vespa as she develops a connection with Marcello, who appears to be her budding love interest, played by Eugenio Franceschini.

After the suspenseful ending of Season 4 Part 1, airing on August 15, where Chef Gabriel declares his feelings for Emily, I find myself intrigued by the introduction of a new enigma in Emily’s life.

Currently, Netflix is broadcasting the fourth season of Emily in Paris, with Parts 1 and 2 set to release on September 12.
