As a long-time Marvel fan who’s witnessed the evolution of X-Men and Deadpool across various timelines, I can’t help but feel a tad disappointed that Halle Berry’s Storm didn’t make an appearance in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. Her portrayal of Storm is as iconic as Wolverine himself, and having her grace the screen once more would have been a truly electrifying moment.
‘The new blockbuster hit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, has grossed over $1 billion at the box office, reigniting excitement among fans about the series.’
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but credit the overwhelming success of this movie to its heartfelt tribute to our shared love for the X-Men universe. It skillfully incorporates iconic appearances from past Fox X-Men films and earlier Marvel movies, creating a nostalgic experience that truly resonates with me and fellow fans, even before the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As an avid fan, I’ve been thrilled to witness Garner’s Elektra, Evans’ Human Torch, Snipes’ Blade, and a multitude of other secondary characters like Pyro, Stick, Toad, Juggernaut, and Sabertooth on the big screen. If you’re familiar with these movies, you’ll recognize this lineup. Fervently, we fans had anticipated seeing some of the most iconic X-Men as well, with whispers of potential cameos by Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey, James Marsden’s Scott Summers, and Halle Berry’s Storm. Regrettably, these appearances never came to fruition.
As it transpires, Halle Berry expressed an interest in appearing briefly in the movie; however, she herself stated that Ryan Reynolds didn’t extend an invitation to her.
Once upon a time at a Marc Jacobs fashion event, I happened to cross paths with Blake Lively. She casually inquired, “Ever consider playing Storm in one of my husband’s movies?” I replied, “Sure, if the opportunity presented itself.” Regrettably, that invitation never came my way.
In the annals of X-Men lore, Berry’s depiction of Storm stands out as a memorable and iconic portrayal. Including her in a cameo would have undeniably added an impressive touch. It’s perplexing that she wasn’t even considered for such a role, especially when less recognized characters were brought on board. I’m not implying any disrespect to Sticky Fingaz, but his portrayal of Blade in the movie seems less significant compared to having Halle Berry as Storm. There may be intricate reasons behind this decision, possibly stemming from reports about Snipes’ treatment of Berry on set.
There’s a chance that Reynolds deliberately provided more screen time to minor characters, so they could conclude their story arcs which were left incomplete in their previous series.
