Halle Berry Reveals Why She Took a 3-Year Dating Break After Separation from Ex-Husband Oliver Martinez

As a fervent admirer of Halle Berry, I find her journey to be nothing short of inspiring. Her ability to approach life with such intentionality and clarity in her career, yet learning from past relationships, is truly commendable.

In a recent conversation, Halle Berry openly discussed her romantic endeavors following her split from Olivier Martinez. She admitted that she hasn’t been as deliberate or focused in her personal relationships compared to her professional pursuits.

In the latest issue of Marie Claire, the Oscar-winning actor opened up about the subject. Reflecting on her decision to abstain from dating for nearly three years following her divorce from her former husband, whom she was married to for two years (Martinez and Berry).

She referred to her break as a “sabbatical to understand” herself. During that time, she sought help by attending therapy sessions, reading, traveling to India, and “studying meditation.”

Berry openly discussed her calculated approach towards her career, stating she was deliberate and purposeful in striving for success. She held confidence in her ability to achieve it and worked diligently towards that goal. However, she confessed that when it came to relationships, she wasn’t as focused or decisive. In her words, “I was more laid-back about that. You need to be clear and specific if you want the universe, or whatever you encounter, to align with your intentions.

As reported by the publication, during that time, the actress outlined the characteristics she sought in a potential romantic partner. Not long after, she began dating her current boyfriend, Van Hunt.

Berry further revealed that it was when she started grasping self-awareness and recognized her actions were wrong, her longtime acquaintance, her boyfriend’s brother, initiated a conversation with her about meeting Van.

Back in 2020, during a conversation over the phone due to the ongoing pandemic, she established her first connection. Four months later, in September of the same year, she made their relationship public and hasn’t regretted that decision since.

She shared with Marie Claire, “It took me a moment to find my stride, but everything that followed made me certain that this was indeed my match, and Van is my ‘soulmate’.

Berry and Martinez have a 10-year-old son named Maceo-Robert Martinez. They’ve faced court battles over custody matters, but despite their contrasting parenting approaches, they both deeply care for their child, who is praised as an exceptional student with a strong focus. Moreover, the actress endeavors to preserve her son’s privacy in her public life.

In terms of career, you’ll find Halle Berry appearing in the movie “Never Let Go,” scheduled for release on September 20, 2024.
