As a long-time fan who’s followed Halle Berry‘s illustrious career, I must say it’s fascinating to learn about the behind-the-scenes drama that went into bringing Storm to life on the big screen. It’s not every day you find out about movie studios resorting to writing fake scripts to lure an Oscar-winning actress back for a role!
Halle Berry is undeniably one of the most prominent figures in the world of cinema. Her impressive filmography spans a wide range of roles, from her Academy Award-winning performance in “Monster’s Ball” (2001) to portraying Storm in four installments of the X-Men movie series (2000–2014). She has also played notable characters such as the henchwoman in the thriller “Swordfish” (2001), Bond girl Jinx in “Die Another Day” (2002), and more recently, she’s starred in films like “Perfect Stranger” (2007), “Cloud Atlas” (2012), “The Call” (2013), “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” (2017), and “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” (2019). Despite her role in the less-than-favorable “Catwoman” movie, Berry’s career has been marked by a diverse and significant array of roles.
Currently, this renowned actress has tackled a wide range of roles throughout her illustrious career, spanning multiple projects and showcasing the versatility of her abilities. Yet, among all these accomplishments, the portrayal of Storm will forever hold a special place in fans’ hearts, as they adore her interpretation of the character.
Meanwhile, there’s ongoing speculation that she might return to the role in future Avengers films, but the actress has given us a fresh insight regarding an intriguing disclosure by director Matthew Vaughn of the X-Men. He shared what underhanded maneuvers they had to employ to bring her back for The Last Stand.
It’s worth mentioning that Halle Berry portrayed Storm in a total of four films, which include the original X-Men trilogy and the blockbuster movie X-Men: Days of Future Past. Although her performances are striking, it has been disclosed that she wasn’t initially keen on being part of all these movies. In fact, Fox faced considerable challenges to secure Berry’s return for X-Men: The Last Stand, as Matthew Vaughn shared in a recent conversation.
“Hollywood is really political and odd. I went into an executive’s office, and I saw a script that was a lot fatter. I was like, ‘What the hell’s this draft?’ They said, ‘Don’t worry about it. (…) That’s a pretty cool idea. So I was like, what’s this? They said it was the Halle Berry script. ‘She hasn’t signed on yet, but this is what she wants it to be. So once she signs on, we’ll throw it in the bin.’ I said, ‘Wow, you’re going to do that to an Oscar-winning actress? I’m out of here.’ So I quit at that point. I figured I was mincemeat.”

It’s clear that WB crafted a deceptive screenplay involving a storm rescuing parched kids in Africa during a downpour. This was Halle Berry’s intended role, so they concocted a false tale to entice her participation. However, this tactic didn’t sit well with Vaughn. Despite appearing as Storm in The Last Stand, when she learned about Vaughn’s comments, she shared her thoughts on Instagram:

You can’t always tell what secret, questionable things might be happening when you’re not around – thank you, Matthew Vaughn, for shining a light on these hidden matters. 🕯️
As a gamer, I must admit this game’s glitches are quite frustrating, and it’s no shocker that Fox decided to overhaul the entire storyline at some point due to these issues.
