As a dedicated follower of celebrity culture, I must say, Gwyneth Paltrow joining the Brat trend is a delightful twist! From Shakespeare in Love to Iron Man, and now embracing her inner “Brat,” it’s clear that this 51-year-old powerhouse is not afraid to evolve with the times.
Gwyneth Paltrow has hopped on the trendsetter train that Charli XCX started with her popular summer album, becoming the most recent star to do so.
On Instagram Stories last Friday, Gwyneth Paltrow playfully held an Ask Me Anything session, confirming that she is currently in a committed relationship during her ‘Brat’ era (a phase in her life). The 51-year-old Goop founder interacted with her followers, discussing health, fashion, and even owning up to joining the popular trend started by Dream Glow singer.
When someone wondered if she considered herself a “brat,” the actress from Shakespeare in Love humorously agreed, stating that she is currently living in her “Brat” phase. The term “brat” has become more culturally significant since Charli XCX released her sixth album in June 2024 and claimed it as the summer of ’24.
It appeared that Paltrow was quite familiar with the trend, as she responded to the fan, “Don’t I say ‘I’m a brat’ or ‘Are you a brat?’ My child mentioned it should be phrased like that.”
The Iron Man actress then revealed, “Yes, I am so brat. I am so brat it hurts.”
Ever since its debut in June, the “Brat” has taken social media by storm as a popular dance craze, while neon green motifs have gained popularity as well. Charli describes being a Brat as a way of accepting some level of disorder and living life according to one’s own rules, which can sometimes mean speaking or acting impulsively or unpredictably. This message appears to strike a chord with Paltrow.
In a different conversation, the actress who plays Emma shared insights on her travel attire when someone inquired about her preferred “travel outfit”. Interestingly, during a court hearing in March 2023, she wore a cardigan from the G. Label by Goop collection, which garnered media attention as the highlight of that story.
The attire she donned in court eventually became known as the “Court Cardigan” at Goop Headquarters, reflecting Paltrow’s trendsetting status. Later, she attended a hearing concerning a civil case stemming from a 2016 skiing accident. Eventually, it was determined that Paltrow was not responsible and was granted $1 along with legal costs.
Following Charli XCX’s comment that “Kamala is brat”, a wave of celebrities have jumped on board with this trend. Notable names such as Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, Eva Longoria, Kerry Washington, Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Ashley Tisdale, Troye Sivan, and others have since joined in.
