Guy Dubs the PHANTOM MENACE Podrace Scenes with Mouth Noises

Let’s just say Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace doesn’t have universal appeal. It’s often considered the weakest film in the series, with many pointing to awkward performances, a complicated story, and some jokes that didn’t land. However, even critics of the movie generally agree on two things: the lightsaber duel with the “Duel of the Fates” music is fantastic, and the podrace sequence is genuinely exciting. The podrace boasts creative designs, fast action, and the signature Star Wars sound effects that are always fun to imitate.

That brings us to the topic of this article. A YouTube channel called Liam’s Newly Rebranded Entertainment Franchise has been posting videos where all the sounds of the podracers – the engines, the mechanics, everything – are made by a person using their mouth.

This guy Liam decided to completely re-record all the dialogue and alien noises, just for the challenge of it. It sounds ridiculous, but it’s actually really well done. I’ve always loved how the sound design in the prequels makes things like Sebulba’s engines and the speeders feel real, especially the way the sound changes as they zoom past. It really pulls you into the experience. Despite their flaws, the prequels definitely have incredible sound. I especially like the sound of Jango Fett’s seismic charges in the asteroid field during Attack of the Clones. What’s the best part of that movie? That’s up for debate, of course.

While The Phantom Menace has its flaws, the podrace scene is genuinely exciting, even with simple sound effects. It’s also memorable – and a little shocking – when one character unexpectedly explodes in a cave. You’d think he’d have seen that coming, but hey, things happen in the heat of battle.

These four videos are really enjoyable, and the creator plans to make more for the rest of the series. Be sure to check back for updates!
