James Gunn jokingly told Bloomberg that any Batman movie needs to be truly exceptional. This is a bit surprising, given his history of directing fun, often silly, projects like Creature Commandos, Peacemaker, Superman, The Suicide Squad, and his work with the Guardians of the Galaxy at Marvel.
Some fans are worried that James Gunn’s take on Batman will be too silly, featuring his signature quirky humor and popular music choices.
And the timing of his comment raises more questions than confidence.

Brave and the Bold in Limbo
Director Andy Muschietti revealed he’s currently restricted from discussing anything about Batman for the next few months. This silence has led many to believe that plans for the film The Brave and the Bold might be uncertain.
If Netflix acquires Warner Bros. Discovery, the ownership and future direction of Batman could change completely, falling under Netflix’s control.

Netflix Highlights Reeves’ Batman Universe, Not Gunn’s
Adding to the confusion surrounding DC’s future, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos recently praised The Penguin series as a successful example of DC storytelling. Notably, he didn’t mention James Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe, Creature Commandos, or Peacemaker.
Interestingly enough, Matt Reeves was up to take over DC when Christopher Nolan chose Zack Snyder.
Now that Muschietti isn’t directing, and with Netflix’s Sarandos supporting Reeves’ vision for DC, plus Gunn openly discussing his own ideas for Batman, it seems likely that Gunn won’t be the one deciding the future of the Batman franchise.
And does anyone really think Gunn is going to make a “f’n awesome” Batman?
