GKIDS Films has just released a new trailer for “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-,” scheduled to debut in American cinemas on February 28th. This sneak peek offers glimpses into the lives and characteristics of the principal characters, all while emphasizing high-octane action scenes from an underground mecha combat club.
The film you’re referring to combines the initial three installments of the upcoming anime, “Gundam GQuuuuuuX,” and serves as an introductory step in its promotional strategy. Unfortunately, a release date for the entire series is still undisclosed.
The recently unveiled trailer seems to have some resemblance to a previous one that was launched by Sunrise, the studio known for creating Gundam since its origin.
After the Japanese premiere of the movie on January 17, Studio Sunrise released their take, showcasing spoilers such as a surprising comeback of a key character and the introductory theme by Kenshi Yonezu. On the other hand, GKIDS’ trailer steers clear of revealing the plot twist, opting to include extra scenes not previously shown in previews.
A variety of Gundam films have previously been released in North America, such as the initial Mobile Suit Gundam movies, Char’s Counterattack, and the more recent Gundam Seed Freedom.
The animated series titled “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” is being developed jointly by Sunrise and Studio Khara. Previously, GKIDS was involved with the “Rebuild of Evangelion” series from Studio Khara. Interestingly, Hideaki Anno, a key figure in the creation of the “Evangelion” franchise, is also part of the creative team for this new project.
The Gundam series boasts a robust history of achievement, with the movie “Gundam Seed Freedom” setting a new standard for international box office success. In Japan, the film “GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-” opened as the top-grossing movie during its initial weekend screening.
Under the joint knowledge of Sunrise and Khara, along with the rich history of Neon Genesis Evangelion, this upcoming Gundam project is stirring high expectations, making it one of the most eagerly awaited anime events in 2025.
