Reviewers loved the film’s dark and atmospheric look, Guillermo del Toro’s careful directing, and the fantastic creatures designed by Mike Hill. The actors, especially Jacob Elordi, also received praise, as did the beautiful costumes and the story’s emotional impact.
Most reviewers agreed the movie beautifully captured the essence of Shelley’s novel, enhanced by Guillermo del Toro’s unique style and emotional depth.
It was a long wait, but the film is a wonderful and impressive achievement for the director, despite being a bit too long and having a few small flaws.

Guillermo del Toro’s stunning visuals and Mike Hill’s impressive creature design beautifully bring Frankenstein’s story to life. It’s an epic film, full of emotion and grandeur.

Let’s hope Guillermo del Toro feels good about how the film turned out. While it might not be a perfect movie, it’s a beautiful and meaningful work that definitely deserves its place in film history.

Guillermo del Toro’s take on Frankenstein is a masterful work, showcasing a stunning performance by Jacob Elordi. He breathes new life into the classic 200-year-old story, transforming it into a moving and atmospheric exploration of love and isolation.

While many enjoyed the film, some critics found it fell short in a few areas. They felt the story lacked vibrancy and didn’t delve deeply enough into the original’s ideas about what it means to be human and the nature of right and wrong. Some also thought the movie prioritized visuals over a strong narrative, and certain special effects looked unrealistic. A few reviewers pointed out that the writing wasn’t always fresh and the movie sometimes felt slow-paced.
The movie is visually stunning and clearly made with a huge budget. However, the story itself feels slow and lacks the energy needed to bring its ambitious themes to life.
Barry Hertz
You can’t fault the ambition, but this is a failed experiment.

Honestly, I was really disappointed with *Frankenstein*. It just felt…empty. All flash and no depth, you know? It focused so much on how things *looked* that it completely missed the point of exploring what makes the characters – or doesn’t make them – human. The writing felt really stale and predictable, and the special effects? They were just…bad. So obviously fake, it pulled me right out of the story.
Monita Roy Mohan
Despite a strong performance by Jacob Elordi, who I enjoyed as the creature, the movie loses momentum in its second half. Many of the ambitious choices the director makes simply don’t quite work.
Terence Johnson
Most critics agree that the movie *Frankenstein* is visually impressive and emotionally powerful at times, but the story itself might not appeal to everyone. While it may not be a universally loved film, it’s likely to be remembered as a bold and visually striking adaptation of the classic tale.
