After much anticipation from fans, it’s been confirmed that Guillermo del Toro’s version of Frankenstein will finally be hitting cinemas, having initially been slated for exclusive streaming release this year. The change came about due to the vocal protests from fans earlier in the year.
To go with the announcement, check out two new posters, and images.
Theatrical Release Dates
I eagerly await the grand unveiling of the Gothic Horror masterpiece, set to captivate audiences in select theaters on October 17th. Later, on November 7th, its magic will expand globally across streaming platforms. This anticipated cinematic experience has stirred passion among fans who believe a spectacle of this grandeur and vision should be savored on the big screen first.
Del Toro’s Passion Project
Del Toro considers “Frankenstein” his preferred novel and has been working on his unique adaptation for over ten years. Unlike previous interpretations, his movie is expected to incorporate features typically omitted, like the story’s framing device and the Arctic sequences from the book.
To this day, no one has produced the book, as Del Toro shared with Den of Geek earlier. Part of him yearns to create a rendition of it, while another part has hesitated for over 25 years due to apprehensions about bringing it to life.
Story
Netflix’s official description reads:
Renowned filmmaker Guillermo del Toro reimagines Mary Shelley’s timeless story about Victor Frankenstein, a gifted but arrogant scientist who performs an extraordinary experiment, resulting in the creation of a monstrous being. This act of creation sets in motion events that ultimately lead to the downfall of both Victor and his tragic monster.
Cast
The star-studded cast includes:
- Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein
- Jacob Elordi as the Creature
- Mia Goth in a lead role
- Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery
- With Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz
First Look
Netflix has shared images showing Timothee Chalamet, disguised as the Creature with a scarf and hood on, Chris Pine giving a lecture as Dr. Victor Frankenstein, and Anya Taylor-Joy adorned in an elaborate costume. Additionally, a brief teaser trailer hints at scenes of Victor’s experimentation and the Creature coming to life. You can watch it below.
Release info
After earning an Oscar for his movie “Pinocchio”, Guillermo del Toro is now bringing to life a long-held dream project of his. By offering a theatrical premiere, Netflix aims to cater to fans who desire to enjoy this creation in movie theaters, while simultaneously adhering to its primary strategy of prioritizing streaming.
In an exhilarating turn of events, I’m thrilled to share that the enigmatic tale of Frankenstein will breathe life into select theaters starting October 17. A few weeks later, on November 7, it will lumber its way onto Netflix for a captivating streamed experience!
