Guide Dogs of America Names Adorable Pups After DC Comics Heroes

DC Comics has a tradition of featuring super-powered pets, like Krypto the Superdog and his Legion of Super-Pets. That’s why it’s a great fit for them to partner with Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines. Together, they’re working to improve the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired, veterans dealing with PTSD or brain injuries, children with autism, and dogs working in public settings. Building on a successful event last year, DC and GDA|TLC are launching a year-long collaboration, including a special litter of puppies sponsored by DC. These future service dogs are all named after famous DC heroes – meet Clark, Lois, Kara, Lobo, and, of course, Krypto!




And here’s a statement from DC president and artist extraordinaire Jim Lee:

DC and GDA|TLC have a unique chance to share an inspiring story, connecting DC’s famous Super Heroes with the incredible work of GDA|TLC in training life-changing service dogs. This partnership highlights how the heroism we see in comic books can be mirrored in the real world through the bravery and dedication of these extraordinary dogs, who improve lives every day. In a special gesture, GDA|TLC has named a litter of puppies, sponsored by DC, after iconic DC characters: Krypto, Clark, Lois, Kara, and Lobo.

We’re hoping these puppies grow up to resemble the famous people they’re named after – though “Lobo” might suggest a bit of a wild side! Once they finish their basic training, these future service dogs will become reliable partners for people who need assistance. They’ll then live with volunteer families who will continue to train them to be loving and dependable companions.

According to Anne DePies from DC Comics, while DC is famous for superhero stories, this new project lets them tell a more grounded tale – one about everyday heroes. Fans can follow the progress of these special pups at DC.com/pups and even meet them at Comic-Con in San Diego this July.
