As a die-hard fan of Grey’s Anatomy who has witnessed the lives of these characters unfold for over two decades, I can hardly contain my excitement as we approach the premiere of season 21! The trailer alone has left me on the edge of my seat, with the continued feud between Meredith and Catherine, Jo’s secret pregnancy, and the budding romance between Jules and Mika.
The long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy is returning with fresh cases and character turmoil in its 21st season. On Thursday, September 19, ABC Network revealed a trailer, giving fans an early look at what’s to come from episodes set to air by the end of this month.
The plot of the upcoming series will continue from the previous season’s cliffhanger, focusing on Meredith Grey confronting Catherine Fox concerning her research on Alzheimer’s disease.
As the conflict between Grey and Fox persists, some characters engage in personal conflicts among themselves, while others seek legal resolutions for the ongoing war. Simultaneously, Jo progresses with her pregnancy without informing Link yet. However, her coworker Levi Schmitt discovers this secret.
Instead, In contrast, the upcoming season’s trailer hints at a blossoming romance between interns Jules and Mika, characters played by Adalaide Kane and Midori Francis. Moreover, it suggests that the owner of Grey Sloan Memorial will face challenges from Meredith due to her insistence on allowing senior doctors to monitor the Alzheimer’s study’s progress.
In addition to featuring many scenes with Ellen Pompeo, the new season of Grey’s Anatomy will also bring back the character Dr. Sydney Heron, played by Kali Rocha. This means fans will get another actress’s glimpse as she reappears in the medical drama, causing disruption in the series’ narrative.
Previously on the show, Dr. Sydney stepped in for Dr. Miranda Bailey. Notably, the actress was also portrayed as the romantic interest of Derek Shepard. In a later development, Derek ended up marrying Meredith Grey and they had children together.
Regarding the returning characters in the series, showrunner Meg Merinis shared with Entertainment Weekly that you can anticipate amusing exchanges between Sydney and some new characters who haven’t previously encountered her. She also mentioned that Sydney’s unique approach to healing through love and her somewhat peculiar personality may be surprising to a few others.
On September 26, viewers can step through the doors of Grey Sloan Memorial once more, as the show returns. You’ll find it streaming conveniently on Hulu.
