Fans of Grey’s Anatomy were delighted by an unexpected romantic moment when Jo and Link got married secretly in the recent episode of season 21. The show’s creator, Meg Marinis, has since shared some intriguing insights about this episode with viewers.
In the seventeenth episode of Grey’s Anatomy Season 21, titled “Love You Like a Love Song”, an unexpected wedding between characters Jo Wilson (played by Camilla Luddington) and Link (portrayed by Chris Carmack) took place. This wedding was a replacement for a previous idea involving a patient’s wedding that had been abandoned. The scene offered emotional closure and joy to the viewers.
Throughout the episode, Carmack performed an exclusive tune that he had composed himself, a surprising twist revealed by showrunner Marinis as something they had been planning for quite some time. According to Marinis, speaking with The Wrap, “We’ve always aimed to have Chris sing on the show, but we never wanted it to seem casual or forced. We always desired it to feel significant and memorable.
Marinis disclosed that the cast had long desired to showcase Carmack’s musical talent, but waited for the right narrative moment. On the filming day, it is said that he repeatedly played the song at the location and remained lively throughout. Marinis further commented, “He likely sang that song 25 times on set that day… and he was more than willing to do it.
The wedding event showcased a delicate balance of poignant scenes and classic Grey’s Anatomy eccentricities. Link’s mother, known for her subtle yet sharp sarcasm, added comic relief, while a grown-up Levi unexpectedly joined forces with Jo to lend assistance.
In the past, it had been him either being assisted by Jo or being teased by her. But this time, they switched roles – he got to hold her hand and offer support instead. It was a heartwarming moment, indeed. And Jo, who didn’t have a traditional upbringing, seemed to be bathed in love and now possesses the ideal family, as Meg pointed out.
