On my inaugural day as a Today show co-host, I was touched by the heartfelt tributes that poured in! The airwaves resounded with words of encouragement and support throughout the broadcast. My esteemed colleague Savannah Guthrie made a point to acknowledge my milestone by frequently mentioning my name. Even sports legend Mike Tirico, in a pre-recorded message, expressed his admiration saying, “You’re doing great!” Such gestures truly meant a lot to me on this memorable day.
Afterward, the NBC talk show played a compilation video showcasing Melvin‘s standout work from his initial years in broadcast journalism. Guthrie narrated this segment and enthusiastically praised Melvin for his knack of making the anchor desk feel lively and for illuminating every nook of our studio with his radiant presence.
Later on, the journalist learned about a pre-prepared message from Hoda Kotb that ultimately caused him great emotion. In essence, the previous host’s message to Melvin was, “Keep going, extend your hand. Take the baton, and you’ll find new horizons.
Endless adventures lie ahead, with people who are truly special. Memorable moments are waiting for you, year after year,” the message concluded. She also assured him that he would be working with an extraordinary team and encouraged him to seize the opportunity as the path was clear.

I’m rooting for you, and I wish you an amazing journey!” She concluded her stint on the Today show on January 10, marking 17 years of hosting for the channel. In September last year, she announced her departure, citing spending more time with her family as the motivation behind her choice.
