Steven Spielberg has achieved the rare feat of winning an EGOT – an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award. He earned his Grammy on Sunday at a ceremony in Los Angeles for his work as a producer on the winning soundtrack, ‘Music by John Williams.’ At 79 years old, Spielberg accomplished this without even attending the event. He’s now one of only 21 people ever to achieve EGOT status, joining a prestigious group that includes Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jennifer Hudson, among others.
Kendrick Lamar overcomes Jay Z’s record for most honored rapper at the Grammys
Kendrick Lamar made history at this year’s awards show. He won Best Rap Album for ‘GNX’, Best Rap Song for ‘tv off’, Best Melodic Rap Performance for ‘luther’ (featuring SZA), and Best Rap Performance for his work on ‘Chains & Whips’. With these wins, he’s now the most awarded rapper of all time, surpassing Jay-Z. His visit to the Peacock theater was truly a special occasion.
The veteran artist has won 25 awards, while the popular musician has already secured 26. He started the evening with 22 wins and quickly added four more. He’s likely to surpass 25 wins before the night ends, as he’s nominated for eight awards this year. Previously, Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z worked together on a remix of “B-tch, Don’t Kill My Vibe,” which came out in 2013.
