Brad Arnold, the frontman of the popular rock band 3 Doors Down, has died at 47 after a battle with kidney cancer. He had recently shared his diagnosis with the public. The band announced on Saturday that he passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family and friends, following his fight with the disease.
3 Doors Down started as a band in Mississippi in 1995 and quickly became popular. Their song “Kryptonite” brought them a Grammy nomination in 1999, and the band has said it was written by Brad Arnold when he was just 15 years old during math class. Their first album, “The Better Life,” sold over six million copies, and they received another Grammy nomination in 2003 for their song “When I’m Gone.”

The band explained that Arnold significantly changed rock music, making it more approachable after the grunge era. He did this by writing songs that were both emotionally honest and relatable to a wide audience.
3 Doors Down has released six albums throughout their career, with their latest, ‘Us and the Night,’ appearing in 2016. They’re known for hit songs like ‘Loser,’ ‘Duck and Run,’ and ‘Be Like That,’ which was included on the soundtrack for the movie ‘American Pie 2’ in 2001.
Arnold frequently discussed the hard work needed to have a lasting career in music. During an interview with the Associated Press in 2011 while promoting their fifth album, Time of My Life, he explained, “The longer you do something, the better you naturally become.” In 2017, 3 Doors Down gained significant public attention by performing at Donald Trump’s first inaugural concert.
In May, Arnold shared the difficult news that his kidney cancer had spread to his lungs, leading the band to cancel their planned summer tour. The band remembered his lasting impact, saying, “His music touched people deeply, creating unforgettable moments of connection, happiness, and shared experiences that will continue to resonate for years to come.”
