Gou Tanabe’s Lovecraft Manga ‘The Color Out of Space’ Licensed by Dark Horse Comics

Dark Horse Comics has revealed that they will publish Gou Tanabe’s manga interpretation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Color Out of Space” starting July 1st. In this chilling story, a surveyor finds himself in a secluded valley in rural Massachusetts, a location avoided by the locals themselves.

The narrative progresses as he delves into the spine-tingling past of this locale, which witnessed the descent of a puzzling meteorite back in 1882. This event seems to have sparked bizarre and terrifying transformations within the surroundings and the people living there.

Zack Davisson, who’s known for translating Tanabe’s previous Lovecraft adaptations, will be back to take on the translation duties for this manga. Originally published in Kadokawa’s Comic Beam magazine from July to October 2015, this work by Tanabe is set to make its return.

As a dedicated admirer of all things related to comics, I’m thrilled to share that this latest release forms part of an extensive comic series based on Lovecraft’s works, meticulously adapted by Tanabe. Dark Horse has graciously published numerous adaptations from him in the past, such as “The Hound and Other Stories” and “At The Mountains Of Madness”, which even earned a nomination for Best Comic at the 46th Angoulême International Comics Festival. Truly, I can’t wait to delve into this new addition!

Additionally, Tanabe has recently finished various works inspired by Lovecraft’s tales, such as “Tales from the Dreamlands” and “The Mysteries of Lovecraft.

Enthusiasts will be eager for this fresh expansion within the Lovecraftian realm, as it is expected to encapsulate the terrifying cosmic dread that characterizes H.P. Lovecraft’s classic stories.
