Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic have announced that Gothic Remake will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on June 5th. A new trailer revealing the release date is available to watch, and digital pre-orders for the RPG will begin shortly.
The new trailer for Gothic Remake is a little over three minutes long and showcases the game’s main location: the Penal Colony of Khorinis and the Valley of Mines. The trailer’s narration highlights that, like any prison, the colony operates on a basic system of power, obedience, and social ranking.
The trailer also introduces the different groups fighting for control of the Valley of Mines: bandits, mages, and a group calling themselves the rulers. The last part of the trailer shows off the game’s combat, where players can use a range of weapons, tools, and magic to defeat enemies. These enemies include bandits, skeletons, and mythical creatures like golems and trolls.
Over the past year, Alkimia Interactive has been sharing a video series offering a glimpse into the making of Gothic Remake. These videos have highlighted how the remake differs from the original game, the studio’s creative choices, visual updates, and, most recently, the improved designs for the characters.
In August 2025, a gameplay trailer offered a first look at the game’s world, narrated by the iconic necromancer Xardas. He described the dangerous Khorinis mines, its imprisoned inhabitants, and the widespread conflict caused by orcs attacking the kingdom. The trailer also showcased the game’s quick and dynamic combat system, which allows players significant control over their magic use.
Released in 2001, Gothic was a role-playing game celebrated for letting players explore a vast world and make meaningful choices. It stood out for its immersive experience and unique character development system. Instead of simply leveling up, players earned skill points through their actions and had to find trainers to actually improve their abilities.
The original game spawned two sequels that continued the story of the hero after his escape from the prison. However, the fourth game, Arcania: A Gothic Tale, significantly changed the gameplay and story, and unfortunately, it wasn’t well-received by critics or players.
Fans eager to experience the original games will be pleased to know that Gothic Classic, Gothic 2 Complete Classic, and Gothic 3 Classic are coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S later this year. PC gamers can already find them on Steam.
