- Gothic Classic brings the iconic RPG from Piranha Bytes to mobile for the first time
- Coming to iOS, this announcement arrives alongside the planned release of a remaster this year
- Gothic was first released in 2003, and served as a predecessor to many fan-favourite RPGs
Before RPGs had the polished graphics and established rules we see today, the genre was full of innovation and experimentation. One game that stood out during this era was Gothic, a memorable dark fantasy RPG from Piranha Bytes, and now it’s available on mobile!
Gothic Classic, the beloved RPG, is coming to iOS devices later this year, alongside a planned remaster for consoles and PC. THQ Nordic, who currently owns the series, recently released a trailer showcasing the game’s updated graphics and how it will play with touchscreen controls.
Fans who’ve loved the original Gothic games will find this a nostalgic trip back to the early 2000s. Beyond the familiar setting, you’ll be surprised by how much you can interact with the world and how many survival-focused features are included, all wrapped up in a deep and engaging story.
Back to the classics
Considering the Gothic Remastered releasing later this year has all the hallmarks of that familiar AAA, Raytracing polish, I think many of you who fondly remember Gothic will be glad to return to it in its original, albeit less polished state.
I didn’t grow up with the original Gothic game, but it’s had a lasting impact, particularly with gamers in Poland, Russia, and Germany. It likely influenced many other role-playing games developed in that region. With the classic version coming to iOS later this year, it’s definitely worth revisiting to see what made it special.
