Golden Globes 2025 Touch Five-Year Highest Viewership Mark; Here’s What Report Suggests

2025’s Golden Globes event, compered by comedian Nikki Glaser, attracted the largest audience in the past five years. The show, competing with the highly viewed finale of Sunday Night Football on NBC, averaged 10.1 million viewers.

Instead, it should be noted that unlike typical Nielsen ratings, the current evaluation stems from a different service – VideoAmp – as a result of an ongoing contract disagreement between Nielsen and CBS. Unfortunately, due to this dispute, we lack access to previous years’ viewership data from Nielsen, making it challenging to accurately compare this year’s figures with past ratings.

Even though Neilson’s overall count reaches 9.4 million, this year’s audience outnumbers it slightly. It can also be attributed to Glaser, as her bold opening monologue that took aim at several A-list celebrities and popular movies garnered widespread acclaim, contributing to the viewership increase.

In a single day, the monologue video posted on the Golden Globes’ official YouTube page garnered over 3.5 million views. Additionally, she presented a satirical rendition of the Wicked musical number Popular, but with a religious undertone, and titled it ‘Pope-ular.’

In a playful manner, Glaser didn’t hesitate to poke fun at Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Nicole Kidman, and several others. She also didn’t shy away from making jokes about the anticipated flop of Wicked and Jiker 2 in 2024.
