In simpler terms, Sebastian Stan receives his initial Golden Globe for his role as “A Different Man,” and delivers an emotional acceptance speech advocating for a more compassionate society regarding disabilities.
Stan, while almost tearing up on stage, expressed gratitude towards writer and director Aaron Schimberg upon winning the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy award for his role as A Different Man, an aspiring actor with neurofibromatosis. In addition, he acknowledged and appreciated his co-star Adam Pearson, who shares this real-life genetic condition.
In his address, Stan advocated for more forward-thinking and welcoming narratives that tackle all types of discrimination towards people with disabilities. He emphasized, “It’s time to eradicate our unfamiliarity and awkwardness concerning disability and deformity. We need to make it commonplace, keep educating ourselves [and our kids] on the subject, and promote acceptance. A way to achieve this is by persistently supporting stories that are inclusive.
Stan was noticeably emotional as he spoke about his family during his gratitude speech, wiping away tears. He ended by saying, “This one’s for my mother who bravely left Romania to pursue a better life and gave me everything, and for my stepfather Tony, who stood by a single mom and an adult child – thank you for embodying true manhood. My heartfelt thanks go out to the Golden Globes.
Sebastian Stan has additionally appeared on The Apprentice, portraying a younger Donald Trump. He considers these roles particularly demanding due to their thought-provoking topics, which he feels are essential for sparking important discussions among the public.
