Golden Globes 2025: Colin Farrell Wins Best Actor in a Limited Series; Thanks His Prosthetic Makeup Team

Colin Farrell looks back on his journey with prosthetics after Golden Globe Win for The Penguin.

On January 5, 2025, Sunday, Farrell won his third Golden Globe award. This was for Best Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film category, which he earned for an outstanding portrayal of Oswald Cobblepot in the series The Penguin. This series explores the rise of the Gotham City crime syndicate’s leader, who is based on the Batman villain.

In his acceptance speech, Farell quipped, “I’ve got no one to thank for this win; I did everything on my own,” further remarking, “It was a bare-bones, stripped-down presentation.

In a humorous twist during the awards ceremony, the notoriously complex character demanded three hours in the make-up chair daily for Farrell’s transformation. He jested about the simplicity of his role, but later, with genuine appreciation, he praised the skillful work of the makeup team that brought him to life as the character.

As he explained, his daily routine, which involved sipping coffee and listening to an ’80s playlist, helped him prepare for assuming his character. He stated, “It only required three hours in the chair every morning. I drank black coffee, played ’80s tunes, and transformed into a blank slate for that team’s genius.

“I guess it’s prosthetics from here on out,” he joked.

Earlier, Colin Farrell explained to several media platforms that taking on the role of the Penguin was demanding due to the fact that, other than his hands and feet, he’s enclosed in prosthetics and a suit for the full-body transformation.
