Production has begun on Amazon’s upcoming God of War series, and Prime Video has shared the first image of Ryan Hurst, who will play Kratos, and Callum Vinson as Atreus.
Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios released a first-look image to announce the start of filming for the live-action series based on PlayStation’s hugely successful mythology franchise. The show has already been renewed for two seasons.

Ryan Hurst and Callum Vinson Lead the Cast
Ryan Hurst voices Kratos, the powerful Spartan warrior who became a god, and Callum Vinson voices Kratos’s son, Atreus.
The story centers on Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they journey to scatter the ashes of Faye, who was Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother.
Throughout their journey, Kratos tries to teach his son how to be a good god, and Atreus, in turn, encourages his father to be a better person.
The show will star Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
Behind the Scenes
Ronald D. Moore leads the show as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. He’s previously known for his work on Battlestar Galactica and Outlander. Joining him as executive producers are Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon.
As a huge fan of shows like Shōgun, The Boys, and Fallout, I was really excited to hear that Frederick E.O. Toye – the Emmy-winning director behind them all – is going to be directing the first two episodes of this new series. I think that’s fantastic news!
Two-Season Commitment
The television series God of War is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Ship Productions.
Ordering two seasons right away shows the studio is confident in this ambitious adaptation, which will involve creating a detailed and expansive world based on mythology.
No release date has been announced yet.
