‘God of War’ Live-Action Series Appoints New Showrunner from ‘Star Trek’ and ‘BSG’ Team

As a fan with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I am beyond thrilled about the new direction for the ‘God of War’ live-action adaptation. Ronald D. Moore’s work on ‘Star Trek,’ ‘Outlander,’ and ‘For All Mankind’ has proven his knack for crafting captivating narratives, making him an ideal choice to breathe life into Kratos’ epic journey.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned from Deadline that the live-action ‘God of War’ adaptation by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon has recently gained fresh direction! Ronald D. Moore, who’s now at the helm, will be steering this project as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Can’t wait to see where his vision takes Kratos’ epic journey!

This transition occurs subsequent to the exit of the initial showrunner, Rafe Judkins, along with his executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. Their departure was prompted by a new creative vision implemented by the studios.

Ronald D. Moore is well-known for his contributions to various ‘Star Trek’ series, as well as hit shows like ‘Outlander’ and ‘For All Mankind.’ He garnered substantial recognition for reviving ‘Battlestar Galactica,’ a move that brought both critical acclaim and numerous awards.

Katherine Pope, head of Sony Pictures Television Studios, showed excitement for the partnership between Amazon Studios, PlayStation Productions, and herself. She emphasized the richness of the storyline from the popular ‘God of War’ video game, which is widely acclaimed within the PlayStation community.

In simple terms, Asad Qizilbash, who leads PlayStation Productions, expressed a similar viewpoint, highlighting the chance to present the cherished game to both longtime enthusiasts and fresh viewers by means of an exceptional live-action show.

The show is expected to accurately depict the 2018 video game, and it may even include aspects from the latest ‘God of War: Ragnarok.’

The narrative follows Kratos, once known as the God of War, who now longs for seclusion in the realm of Midgard following a tumultuous history in ancient Greece. After his wife’s demise, Kratos and his distant son set out on a dangerous expedition to carry out her final wish – scattering her ashes from the summit of the highest mountain peak.

As the voyage progresses, it transforms into a grand odyssey that tests their bond and compels Kratos to encounter fresh deities and beasts.

Vernon Sanders, the chief of global TV at Amazon Studios, highlighted the engaging and character-focused nature of ‘God of War.’ He commended the series’ ability to enthrall viewers globally through its vast settings and captivating narratives.

Given Moore’s established reputation and the imaginative capabilities of Sony and Amazon, the ‘God of War’ series seems primed to make a substantial impact on the realm of live-action game adaptations.
