Glenn Close Reveals To Have Had ‘Incredibly Active Imagination’ Growing Up In Cult-Like Group: ‘I Could Take Myself Out of Situations’

Glenn Close is discussing her childhood spent in a group resembling a cult, centered around religious beliefs. In an interview on Today’s Sunday Sitdown, the acclaimed actress spoke about her upbringing within Moral Re-Armament. She explained that she often escaped difficult situations by using her vivid imagination. The organization, founded by Reverend Frank Buchman, emphasized moral transformation as a means to prevent wars and violent circumstances.

However, with the reverend’s passing away, the organization too died out.

Ever since my birth in the lush landscapes of Connecticut, I’ve been drawn to the enchanting world of the group headquartered abroad in Switzerland. Yet, as much as I yearned to be part of this magical realm, I found myself resisting the call. In my heart, I was still working it out, figuring out the path that would lead me to where I belong.

Looking back, even from our youthful days running wild in the Connecticut woods, I’ve always harbored an overactive imagination. It’s as if a hidden force within me has been guiding my steps towards this uncharted territory.

In my own experience, I discovered the ability to detach myself from certain situations by using my imagination. This skill allowed me to maintain distance and not fully immerse myself as deeply as I might have otherwise. I believe this is what ultimately guided me towards my dream of becoming an actress at a very young age.

As an ardent admirer looking back, I’ve often pondered about the complicated bond I shared with my father – a bond that was tinged with resentment during my teenage years. In a past interview with People Magazine, the legendary star of Fatal Attraction echoed similar feelings, revealing this strained relationship. She went on to express her puzzlement, questioning her parents about why they chose to enroll me in a particular group at such a young age.

However, my story took an uplifting turn when I turned 22 and received my college admission. This milestone marked the end of my time with the group, opening the door to a new chapter in my life.

During an interview with a media outlet, the actress shared that she’s gained deeper insights into them, understanding more about their circumstances and the vulnerabilities they faced at specific points in time.

She further explained, “I believe I grasp why they were susceptible to such a group. They were unaware of the destruction it would wreak on their offspring.

Glenn Close subsequently entered the field, finding success through her portrayal of numerous characters on-screen.
