Gina Carano successfully resolved her dispute with Disney through a settlement, bringing an end to the much-publicized legal fight that ensued after her termination from The Mandalorian in 2021.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel ecstatic about this recent triumph of the ex-MMA fighter turned actress, who once graced the Star Wars universe. This victory might just be a hint of her possible comeback to the galaxy far, far away!
Settlement Reached Before Trial
In simpler terms, a shared court submission verified that Carano and Disney/Lucasfilm mutually decided to drop their lawsuit permanently. This means the case can’t be brought up again. The court paperwork was concise yet unequivocal, suggesting that the disagreement between them has been resolved before the scheduled trial in September.
Despite the confidentiality surrounding the agreement’s details, both parties are maintaining a harmonious public image. Interestingly, Disney issued a statement on Thursday to the media outlets that contrasted significantly with their position in 2021.
Disney and Lucasfilm are delighted to confirm that a resolution has been found in the ongoing legal dispute with Gina Carano. Known for her professionalism, Ms. Carano was highly regarded by her fellow cast members and crew. She consistently demonstrated dedication to her craft and maintained a respectful work environment. Now that this lawsuit is behind us, we eagerly anticipate exploring potential collaborations with Ms. Carano in the not-too-distant future.
Highlighting here: Disney mentions that now the lawsuit is over, they are eager to explore potential collaborations with Ms. Carano in the coming days.
Carano’s Response
Earlier in the day on X, Carano shared a quote, “… and the truth shall set you free,” suggesting that a resolution was imminent. Later, she issued an official announcement, acknowledging the settlement, and expressing gratitude towards Elon Musk and the X platform for their financial support during her lawsuit.
… and the truth shall set you free. 😊🫶

Via THR:
After reaching a consensus with Disney/Lucasfilm, I feel this decision benefits everyone. Here’s hoping it contributes to restoring balance in the galaxy (or force).
I’d like to express my sincerest thanks from the bottom of my heart to Elon Musk, a person I have yet to meet, who selflessly contributed to funding my lawsuit.”
“A big thank you goes out to Elon Musk and X for standing by me in court and showing such generosity without expecting anything in return.
To the legal team at Schaerr|Jaffe, who navigated me through uncharted waters, I extend my gratitude for your insight and direction.
I am humbled and grateful to God for His love and grace in this outcome.
I want to express my gratitude for the constant support you’ve given me throughout my life and career. You’ve been like the beating heart that keeps my story going. I hope to make you feel proud.
I can’t wait to turn the page and start a new phase. My passion lies in the realm of art, and I invite you to share that journey with me.
Yes, I’m smiling.
Disney’s Reversal
In simpler terms, Disney’s current response tone is a complete change from last year when Disney and Lucasfilm publicly criticized Carano’s social media posts and decided not to work with her again. One of her posts equated the persecution of conservatives to the treatment of Jews during the Holocaust, causing widespread criticism that ultimately led to her termination.
In the legal dispute she initiated, Carano contended that she was singled out due to her conservative ideologies, while posts with progressive political leanings by Pedro Pascal and other cast members from “The Mandalorian” were disregarded. She asserted that Disney subjected her to harassment and defamation, infringed upon her First Amendment freedoms. Earlier, the court had denied Disney’s request to dismiss the case, setting the stage for a trial in September. However, instead of proceeding with the trial, Disney opted to settle the matter out of court.
Musk financed Carano’s case, having publicly declared his intention to assist those let go due to their social media activities. Carano served as one of the initial notable instances where this pledge was put into action.
A Potential Return to Star Wars?
Following the resolution of her lawsuit, Carano expresses her readiness to dive back into creative endeavors. Whether or not she’ll rejoin the Star Wars universe is yet to be determined, but Deadline seems optimistic about the possibility, and based on Disney’s statements, it appears there might be a chance. Before her termination, rumors suggested Carano was set to appear in the Star Wars series titled Rangers of the New Republic.
Via Deadline:
Is it confirmed that Carano will participate in the filming of The Mandalorian in California, or has she already secured roles in upcoming Star Wars series and full-length movies within the franchise?
It may not be the answer or the right path (like what the Mandalorians often say), but eventually, we’ll probably uncover the truth when the time is right.
