Gina Carano Assembles Her Own Team of Avengers to Take on Disney in a High-Profile Lawsuit!

As a fan with a keen eye for storytelling and character development, I find myself deeply invested in Gina Carano‘s ongoing legal battle with Disney. Having followed her journey from MMA fighter to action star, I can’t help but feel a sense of empathy for her situation.

Gina Carano has gained prominence lately due to her portrayal of Cara Dune in the initial two seasons of “The Mandalorian.” It seems that the studio had ambitious ideas not only for her but also for her character, with plans that included potentially a solo series.

Yet, these initial plans underwent alterations after a sequence of contentious social media publications by Carano, where she drew parallels between anti-vaxxers and Jews and touched upon other subjects that contradicted Disney’s public persona. Consequently, she was let go from the series.

In this case, it appears that Elon Musk, known for his commitment to standing up for employees who experience discrimination based on their beliefs, has reportedly financed a lawsuit. Gina Carano, the plaintiff, is suing Disney for $75,000 and aims to be reinstated by Lucasfilm.

In response to Disney’s request to throw out the ongoing lawsuit, Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett from California made a decision against them. Her ruling stated that Disney had not provided convincing evidence to prove their use of contractors was exclusively aimed at maintaining a favorable public image.

The defendants haven’t provided any proof – in their complaint or elsewhere – to support their claim that they use employees who interact with the public to uphold values like respect, decency, integrity, or inclusivity. Therefore, when the defendants argue that the plaintiff’s employment with them has a negative impact simply because of their presence, this argument doesn’t hold any significant weight under constitutional law.

Currently in this legal case, the court is not able to agree with Defendants’ suggestion that if Plaintiff remains employed by them, it might interfere with or encroach on their freedom of expression and association.

The legal case is progressing, heading either to a trial or a resolution, and Carano has amassed an impressive roster of potential witnesses. As reported by THR, this group includes some unexpected figures such as Pedro Pascal, Jon Favreau, and ex-Disney CEO Bob Chapek.

In addition to Carano and Disney, Bear Grylls, Kathleen Kennedy of Lucasfilm, and Lynne Hale are named as potential witnesses in their joint filing. A court document dated July 26 details the primary points of contention for the trial, provisionally set for September 25, 2025. Among these issues is whether Carano was still under contract at the time Disney reportedly terminated her due to her controversial social media activity related to political views.

In my perspective as a fan, one point of contention in Gina Carano’s lawsuit revolves around the question of whether she was unfairly treated compared to her male co-stars. Gina claims that Disney and Lucasfilm chose to ignore offensive remarks made by others, such as Pedro Pascal’s comparisons of former President Trump to Hitler and his likening of U.S. immigration policies to concentration camps. However, she was terminated for expressing views related to her cultural and religious beliefs.

The lawsuit further raises doubts if Jon Favreau will be called to testify concerning Disney’s authorization of an upcoming spinoff titled “Rangers of the New Republic“, that initially included Gina Carano’s character, Cara Dune. It was back in 2020 when Kathleen Kennedy announced the production of this spinoff.

It’s possible that Bear Grylls could be summoned to court due to claims that Disney eliminated an episode from their show “Running Wild With Bear Grylls” starring Carano, following her dismissal. However, Disney has disputed Carano’s proposed witnesses and hinted they might bring in Carrie Beck, VP of Lucasfilm, and Paul Roeder, EVP at Disney, as their own witnesses.
