Gina Carano and Disney have chosen to settle their legal dispute. The actress who was once a key figure in The Mandalorian has come to an understanding with Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company, thus concluding the lawsuit she initiated following her dismissal from the popular Star Wars show.
As a representative of Lucasfilm, I’m excited to share that The Walt Disney Company and I have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against us. Gina was always highly regarded by her directors, co-stars, and team for her dedication and skill, as well as her kind and respectful treatment of others. Now that this legal matter is settled, we’re eager to explore potential collaborations with Gina in the coming days.
Until 2021, Carano portrayed Cara Dune in the series The Mandalorian. However, her social media post that compared being a Republican to Jews during the Holocaust sparked significant criticism online. As a result, Lucasfilm decided to exclude her from future Star Wars projects.
In 2024, three years after the initial incident, Carano decided to take legal action. She filed a complaint in a federal court in California, asserting that she had been unjustifiably dismissed and subjected to discrimination. Additionally, she requested the court to mandate Lucasfilm to reinstate her character in the show and compensate her with at least $75,000 as punitive damages. It was reported that Elon Musk provided the funds for this lawsuit, a claim that Carano herself confirmed.
As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed that the specifics of Gina Carano’s settlement have remained private, and it’s unclear whether she’ll rejoin the cast of The Mandalorian or any other Disney or Lucasfilm production in the future. However, the company’s statement hints at a potential opportunity for her return.
At the moment, it appears that both parties are prepared to advance, as Lucasfilm has affirmed their continued regard for Carano and her accomplishments.
