Gillian Anderson Finally Shares Why She Kissed The X-Files Co-Star David Duchovny At 1997 Emmys: ‘We Were There To Celebrate…’

As a dedicated fan of Gillian Anderson‘s illustrious career, I have always admired her ability to bring depth and complexity to every character she plays. Her portrayal of Dana Scully in The X-Files was nothing short of groundbreaking, and it is no surprise that she won an Emmy for her performance.

Gillian Anderson clinched an Emmy Award back in 1997, thanks to her portrayal of FBI special agent Dana Scully in the sci-fi TV series The X-Files, which was Chris Carter’s creation. During the show, she shared the screen with her fellow actor David Duchovny. At the Emmy Awards ceremony where Anderson won the accolade for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, Duchovny was present to witness this momentous occasion.

Despite this, it was a particular instant shared by the pair that attracted everyone’s gaze. Prior to stepping up to receive the award, it is said that she deviated from the norm and chose to kiss David Duchovny instead of her then-partner Rodney Rowland, who was sitting next to her at the function.

As reported by Deadline, the actress from the movie Scoop has explained her famous kiss with David Duchovny in a recent TikTok video. In this video, she clarified the old incident, asking, “So, it seems you all want to know about the time I won an Emmy over a hundred years ago and kissed David first instead of my boyfriend Rodney. Why didn’t I kiss Rodney?”

In a candid moment, I shared, “Contrary to appearances, David and I were indeed sharing a roof, and Rodney, dear Rodney, was more like my accessory than my significant other.” However, let me be clear, I was merely jesting. That’s just a harmless joke. I hope it didn’t come off as too harsh.

Back in an exhilarating moment during the Emmys, I’ll never forget when I found myself locked in a passionate kiss with my extraordinary co-star, Duchovny. Reflecting on that electrifying instant, it dawned on me that perhaps our unbreakable bond was the reason behind it. You see, we weren’t just colleagues; we were practically married, spending more hours together than with our own families due to the magic we created on set.

The actress went on to say, “We attended the event to honor the series, and perhaps that’s what transpired? Maybe so.” At that time, she felt that the situation didn’t upset her partner Rodney Rowland, as he was a wonderful man who comprehended it. In the end, she summarized, “It was intricate. That’s all I can say.”

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny collaborated on the X-Files television series throughout its nine seasons. Afterward, they teamed up again for two X-Files films, titled The X-Files: Fight the Future (1998) and The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008).
