What is Ghost of Tsushima about?
Ghost of Tsushima is a thrilling action-adventure video game created by Sucker Punch Productions and launched in 2020 on the PlayStation 4. The story takes place on Tsushima Island during the initial Mongol invasion in the 13th century Japan, where we follow Jin Sakai’s journey as a samurai who must set aside his traditional principles to protect his homeland from destruction.
The narrative kicks off as the Mongols, under the shrewd command of Khotun Khan, launch a merciless assault on Tsushima. This leaves Jin and his samurai comrades in ruins. With his uncle, Lord Shimura, taken captive and the island overrun, Jin concludes that traditional samurai strategies are inadequate to repel the invaders. Faced with no other choice, Jin adopts unconventional warfare techniques, ultimately earning himself the moniker of “The Ghost.
Adventurers traverse a vast, open-world representation of Tsushima Island, replete with woods, meadows, tranquil shrines, and historic temples. This game promotes unrestricted exploration, offering various activities like additional missions, hidden treasures, and cultural immersion through tasks such as crafting haikus, partaking in hot springs, and paying respects to sacred sites.
The fighting style in “Ghost of Tsushima” comes with two unique approaches. In the role of a samurai, players engage in skillful and noble swordfights, mastering stances and counters to overpower opponents in head-on conflicts. Conversely, they can choose the stealthy path as the Ghost, deploying strategies like assassinations, diversions, and psychological warfare to weaken the Mongol army.
