Get Ready for the Epic Return of Steven Universe with Lars of the Stars on Prime Video!

The beloved and highly-rated animated series “Steven Universe” bid farewell in early 2019, but it wasn’t long before “Steven Universe: The Movie” graced our screens. Following the conclusion of “Steven Universe Future” in 2020, it seemed like the end for this franchise on-screen. To the delight of fans, however, it isn’t! It’s preparing to make a comeback on television once more. Cartoon Network Studios has announced they are working on a spinoff series titled “Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars,” which will be exclusively available on Prime Video.

At this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival, I was thrilled to learn that Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe made an exciting announcement during their Studio Showcase presentation. What particularly caught my attention was Cartoon Network Studios sharing plans for a continuation of a beloved series, but with a twist: instead of focusing on the original show’s main character, this new series will revolve around Lars Barriga.

In contrast to the original “Steven Universe” series that ran on Cartoon Network, spanning five seasons and 160 episodes, the new spin-off titled “Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars” is making its debut on Prime Video. This change in platform opens up an exciting opportunity for viewers to explore not just the future, but also delve into the past within this show’s universe. Here is the official synopsis of the series:

Hailing from executive producers Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey, “Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars” delves into the history, current state, and future of the Steven Universe universe. This spin-off series focuses on Lars Barriga, an immortal teenager and intergalactic outlaw, who, along with his band of pirates, traffics illicit goods, eludes law enforcement, and uncovers the most sinister truths about the crumbled Gem Empire.

Besides unveiling this sequel/spinoff, Cartoon Network additionally shared that Teen Titans Go! has been greenlit for its tenth season during the presentation.

Today is an exceptional day for animation enthusiasts, as we’re delighted by the return of a show we had eagerly anticipated and the surprising resurrection of another that we thought might never come back. It seems the (Steven) universe just can’t stay hidden!
