Get Ready for a Dark Twist: ‘Wake Up Dead Man’ Premieres December 12 on Netflix!

A Knives Out Mystery,” which is the third movie in Rian Johnson’s detective series, have been set. Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Benoit Blanc, and this movie will be available worldwide on Netflix starting from December 12.

During the Netflix Tudum 2025 gathering, the announcement was unveiled, along with a quick sneak peek and initial visual of Craig alongside newcomer Josh O’Connor. As per Netflix, this case promises to be Blanc’s most perilous assignment yet. Check it out below.

What Is ‘Wake Up Dead Man’ About?

The specifics of the plot are being kept secret, but a coffin in the trailer and a somber voiceover by Blanc create a mood that’s more ominous than previous installments. Rian Johnson has suggested that the new film will move away from the light-hearted approach of the earlier movies towards something more somber, taking inspiration from a broader range of classic mystery storytelling styles.

Johnson shared on X that he adores everything related to mystery novels (whodunnits), especially their flexibility as a genre. From the somber tones of Carr to the lighter ones of Christie, the ability to delve into this range is one of the most thrilling aspects when creating Benoit Blanc films for him.

Who’s in the Cast?

Once again, the Knives Out movies are known for their multi-talented cast. This latest gathering of potential culprits is set around a dinner table.

  • Daniel Craig
  • Josh O’Connor
  • Glenn Close
  • Josh Brolin
  • Mila Kunis
  • Jeremy Renner
  • Kerry Washington
  • Andrew Scott
  • Cailee Spaeny
  • Daryl McCormack
  • Thomas Haden Church

Previously, Renner was portrayed in the film “Glass Onion” as a fictitious hot sauce brand. In this instance, however, he is truly present on the screen.

Title Origin: U2’s Influence

Similar to previous selections, the title “Wake Up Dead Man” derives inspiration from a song, specifically one off U2’s 1997 album “Pop“. Johnson found the phrase intriguing right from the start, and he was drawn to its origins in American folk music.

Johnson remarked to Netflix that “Pop” is an underestimated album, and that particular song perfectly fits its title. However, “Wake Up Dead Man” has been stuck in his mind for quite some time now, a phrase he initially encountered in American folk music.

Where Was It Filmed?

The filming for this project was completed in London during the summer of 2024. Johnston, along with producer Ram Bergman, oversaw its development through their production company, T-Street.
