George R.R. Martin recently discussed the future of the Game of Thrones world, sharing updates during a conversation with Los Siete Reinos at an event.
According to Martin, HBO is working on several new shows set in the world he created.
Martin explained that the network has more on the way than the projects already announced.
I heard him say that besides ‘The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ and ‘House of the Dragon’, there are actually several other ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off shows being worked on. Most of these new shows will be set in the past, as prequels. He mentioned around five or six series are in development, and he’s collaborating with other writers and creators on them. He also confirmed that they are considering some shows that take place after the events of the original series, so there’s potential for sequels too.
His comments make it clear that HBO is not slowing down when it comes to expanding the franchise.
Production is well underway on the third season of House of the Dragon, expected to premiere in 2026. HBO is also pleased with the show and has already greenlit a fourth season.
Fans can also look forward to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a new series based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas. The show, starring Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell, will follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and young Egg. The first season of six episodes is scheduled to premiere on HBO and Max in 2026. In a sign of confidence, the network has already ordered a second season before the first one even airs.
This demonstrates HBO’s dedication to continuing the story of Westeros with fresh narratives and characters. With multiple projects in development, fans can look forward to the world of Game of Thrones expanding for many years to come.
