George Clooney has addressed the strong words Hunter Biden used to express his disagreement with Clooney’s advice to President Biden about not seeking another term in 2024.
The actor spoke about the recent issue in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, after comments made by Hunter in July caused a stir.
In an interview with Andrew Callaghan on Channel 5, Hunter Biden, 55, angrily confronted George Clooney, 64, using profanity. Biden questioned Clooney’s involvement and authority, specifically criticizing Clooney for taking what he perceived as a public action – a full-page ad in The New York Times – to discredit the president, and defending his own 52 years of service to the country.
Hunter Biden angrily responded to George Clooney’s New York Times opinion piece—which suggested Joe Biden should withdraw from the presidential race—with a profanity-laced outburst, reportedly saying, “F*ck him, and everybody around him.”

In a recent interview with Seth Doane on Sunday Morning, George Clooney addressed claims made by Hunter Biden. Clooney explained that he felt compelled to write the 2024 New York Times opinion piece as a civic responsibility and strongly refuted Biden’s statements, calling them “outright lies.” He specifically stated that Barack Obama had no involvement and clarified that the fundraising event in question was his own.
The actor explained he doesn’t think publicly arguing with Hunter would achieve anything positive. “I don’t believe dwelling on the past helps anyone, especially him, or the Democratic party,” Clooney stated. “I just want to wish him well with his recovery and hope he continues to improve, and I’ll leave it at that.”
Hunter Biden also stated that people associated with Barack Obama had approved George Clooney’s op-ed. He downplayed Clooney’s account of a June 2024 Hollywood fundraiser they co-hosted, claiming Clooney was simply one of the performers. Hunter maintained that his father did, however, acknowledge Clooney’s presence at the event.
Clooney stood by his recent opinion piece and shared his thoughts on President Biden’s decision to not seek reelection, instead paving the way for then-Vice President Kamala Harris. He believes this was an error in strategy. As he explained to Doane, “I thought it would have been better to have a primary contest—a real test—to see who the strongest candidate would be. The problem with Kamala was that she had to defend her own past actions while simultaneously arguing she represented a change. That’s a difficult position, and ultimately, I think it was a mistake. However, we have to accept the current situation.”
