Genshin Impact: Give Direidyth the key or keep it?

In the latest update of Genshin Impact (version 5.7), a fresh Archon Quest titled “A Space and Time For You” has been introduced. This quest unfolds as the Abyss Order launches attacks across Natlan, while the Traveler crosses paths with an enigmatic girl named Direidyth. She is on a quest to find the Savior, who happens to be the Traveler’s twin sibling. Additionally, during their journey, the Traveler discovers a key that once belonged to the spaceship the twins had used in the past.

After aiding Dainsleif in defeating the Abyss Order’s troops and discovering the reason behind the assault, you head back to Direidyth to verify if the Order successfully rewove the Ley Lines of Khaenri’ah using the Loom of Fate. Is that clearer?

Encountering Direidyth once more solidifies the Traveler’s suspicions: She appears to be a remnant of the past, as the true Direidyth has vanished, meeting the same fate as many Khaenri’ahns by being turned into a Hilichurl. In other words, the Hilichurl who scurried away from the cave at the start of the quest where you retrieve the Hibernation Chamber Key from the twins’ spaceship is none other than Direidyth herself.

However, it seems that either an entity or something, with Istaroth the Shade of Time as the chief suspect, has enabled Direidyth’s earlier self to break through spatial-temporal boundaries and encounter the Traveler in different time periods. This unusual interaction resulted in a catastrophic event.

Again grasping her hands, the Voyager is whisked into Direidyth’s authentic timestream, coinciding with the Cataclysm event. Here, one observes the imprint of the Celestial Laws through the manifestation of their distinctive red-black geometric shapes suspended in the atmosphere.

Here, the Traveler is faced with a dilemma: Should they hand over the Hibernation Chamber Key to Direidyth so she can reach the cave, or should they hold onto the key in an attempt to alter her future?

It appears that no matter what you do, Direidyth’s destiny remains unalterable. If you don’t hand over the key, another sibling will still emerge to deliver it, thereby ensuring a repeat of the same sequence of events in the future, despite the severe ramifications for Khaenri’ah.

Regardless of your decision, Direidyth will eventually obtain the key in her unique sequence of events and present it to her other sibling upon encountering them. This encounter prompts them to forsake Khaenri’ah during the Cataclysm, opting instead to pursue their twin. The sequence of events unfolds as predestined – the destruction of Khaenri’ah, the other sibling rising as the Abyss Order’s leader, the Traveler awakening isolated 500 years later and commencing their journey, and so forth.

The Twin from the Abyss made it clear that their assumption of leadership in the Abyss Order wasn’t solely driven by guilt; instead, they took control and rebuilt Khaenri’ah as a means to accumulate the immense power needed to challenge the Celestial Authority on even ground. It seems that this is why they are reluctant to alter the past events.

Ultimately, the path you choose for your character boils down to personal preference: Would you prefer your traveler to maintain a sense of resignation, acknowledging their powerlessness over destiny, or would you rather they persevere, striving for change even if it ultimately proves futile?
