Leslie Charleson, famously recognized for portraying Monica Quartermaine on General Hospital, passed away at the age of 79. She had been grappling with health issues that affected her mobility towards the end of her life. Charleson was a key figure on the widely acclaimed daytime drama for close to five decades, last appearing in December 2023.
Leslie’s health troubles started in 2017, following an accident where she hurt her leg while walking her pet dog. This mishap forced her to take a break from filming for about two months, during which time Patty McCormack temporarily took over the role of Monica.
Lately, Leslie has been using a walker because of multiple falls. A week prior to her passing, she was admitted to the hospital following yet another fall, marking a difficult conclusion to an extraordinary career and life.
Frank Valentini, the executive producer of General Hospital, announced the passing of his cherished friend and colleague, Leslie Charleson. He expressed, “With great sadness, I inform you about the demise of my dearest companion who has been a part of our team for almost half a century on General Hospital. Just as Monica was the central figure among the Quartermaines, Leslie held a special place in the hearts of every cast and crew member.
Valentini commented, “I’ll surely miss our daily conversations, her sharp humor, and the powerful impact she had on set. My deepest condolences are with her family as they navigate through this challenging period.
Fans of the daytime soap opera “General Hospital” expressed their sorrow online following the news of Leslie Charleson’s death. One fan posted, “I’m deeply saddened to learn about her passing. May she find peace.” Another reminisced, “I’ve been a viewer since 1979; it feels like losing a relative from my television family.
