On Thursday, February 27, Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and one of their pets were sadly discovered deceased in their home in New Mexico. Despite initial conclusions ruling out any suspicious activity, recent reports hint that the couple’s deaths might have been under questionable circumstances.

Previously, it was Elizabeth Jean Hackman, one of the deceased actor’s daughters, who shared with TMZ that the family believes carbon monoxide poisoning could be the cause behind their father and stepmother’s unexplained passing. However, a fresh report from the same source proposes an alternative theory.

A detective in Santa Fe delved deeply into the investigation following claims by one of Hackman’s neighbors, who noted that the late couple’s front door was left unlocked and an empty pill bottle with spilled pills was discovered close to Arakawa’s body.

In an alternate room of the residence, the body of the man who portrayed Superman was discovered. According to the officer’s statement in his affidavit (which TMZ obtained), no apparent indications of a gas leak were uncovered during the investigation. The document further provided precise details about the location, disclosing that Arakawa’s body was positioned on its side within a bathroom, with a space heater situated nearby.

It’s believed that the couple had been deceased for over a day when their bodies were found by law enforcement officials. According to TMZ, Arakawa’s body appeared to be close to decomposition, with her face swollen and signs of mummification in her hands and feet.

According to the report, Hackman’s lifeless body was discovered in another room, with his sunglasses beside him, suggesting he might have tripped or fallen. Importantly, neither the fire department nor the gas company found any evidence of a carbon monoxide leak or poisoning.
