Gates McFadden Wants to Know Where Her STAR TREK Funko Is

The Star Trek franchise has an unusual relationship with Funko collectibles. When Funko Pop! figures first came out fifteen years ago, many characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation were included, almost the entire bridge crew of the EnterpriseD. However, Dr. Beverly Crusher, played by Gates McFadden, was notably absent. While the other TNG* characters have received updated Funko Pop! versions over the years, Dr. Crusher still hasn’t gotten one. Actress Gates McFadden has taken notice and recently posted on Instagram, jokingly asking why her character hasn’t been made into a Funko Pop! after so long, even including her cat Rudy in the post.

In a playful video, Gates McFadden jokingly questioned why her character, Beverly Crusher, never received a Funko Pop figure, even after becoming more involved in the action on Star Trek: Picard. She playfully wondered if there was discrimination against mothers, doctors, or women who don’t fit the typical ‘sex symbol’ mold. The question immediately reminded her of the memorable (and somewhat infamous) Next Generation episode, “Sub Rosa,” featuring her character’s encounter with a ghostly lover. If you haven’t seen it, it’s definitely worth a watch! While The Next Generation was often fantastic, its weaker episodes were truly cringeworthy.

While Funko Pop! figures have been made for almost every character in franchises like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, Star Trek fans haven’t been as lucky. Many important characters from shows like Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and even the original series are still missing from the Funko line. Things are improving with new figures based on classic Trek shows, but notably, Beverly Crusher still hasn’t gotten one. Actress Beverly McFadden even shared a link on Instagram to a fan campaign – #JusticeforCrusher – and a petition asking Funko to finally create a Beverly Crusher Pop! figure. Fans are also hoping to see figures of her son Wesley, Guinan, and Tasha Yar. With the show’s 40th anniversary approaching next year, fans want the complete bridge crew represented as Funko figures.
