In 2024, “Dune: Part Two” was a massive success, with critics (92%) and audiences (95%) on Rotten Tomatoes giving it high marks, and it grossed more than $700 million globally. It picks up where “Dune: Part One,” which earned six Oscars, left off.

According to Director Denis Villeneuve, the upcoming film titled “Dune: Messiah” is currently being developed. Contrary to previous assumptions that filming would commence next year, recent updates indicate that production will actually start as early as June this year.

Director Denis Villeneuve has previously confirmed that Dune: Messiah will serve as his final film in the Dune series, but it’s important to note that Frank Herbert’s tale may not reach its conclusion on the silver screen just yet. Although Dune 4 hasn’t been officially given the go-ahead, there are whispers within the industry suggesting a potential new director is being considered as a possible replacement for Villeneuve – however, any formal decisions remain to be made.

Edwards is primarily recognized for his work directing the critically praised Star Wars spin-off, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as well as Godzilla from 2014, a movie that played a significant role in establishing the MonsterVerse franchise.
