As a gamer who has been following Naughty Dog’s work since the early days of Crash Bandicoot, I must say, the reaction to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has left me quite bewildered. I remember the excitement and anticipation that used to surround each new Naughty Dog release, and it’s disheartening to see such a negative response to their latest project.
At The Game Awards, Naughty Dog and Sony revealed a trailer for “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet”. However, since its unveiling, the response has been generally unfavorable. Many video game enthusiasts have expressed displeasure with the main character’s appearance, and this dissatisfaction is evident in the decreasing numbers.
On Naughty Dog’s YouTube channel, the trailer has received over 24,000 dislikes compared to only 22,000 likes. Over on PlayStation’s channel, where commenting is still allowed, it’s a different story. The comments section is brimming with witty remarks and criticisms, with one user humorously stating, ‘The trailer has been up for just two hours? Yuck, we need a remaster.’ Another jested, ‘Sony, you forgot to turn off the commenting feature.’
Some individuals criticized Naughty Dog’s previous work, making comments such as, “Lev from The Last of Us Part II has grown up and ventured into space (laugh out loud),” and “I didn’t anticipate that Naughty Dog’s next intellectual property would look like this at all.” A few even doubted the studio’s abilities, inquiring about how many of the original team members still work there.
On platform X, the negativity persisted without abating. Neil Druckmann’s promotion of the game sparked strong criticism. One user labeled it as ‘Cyberpunk’s queer relative,’ while another simply stated, ‘I’ll pass.’ Some expressed doubts about the writing quality, forecasting flat characters and illogical plotlines.

Other comments were bluntly harsh and brutal. YouTuber HeelvsBabyface commented, ‘A masterclass in discouraging people from buying your product. It’s androgynous, ugly, reminiscent of ironing boards in space, with a good soundtrack to create the impression of fun.’ Another wrote sarcastically, ‘Who would spend 60 dollars to play as a bald lesbian?’
Some criticisms also accused Naughty Dog of focusing on social agendas over gameplay. One user summarized, ‘Make The Last of Us Part II, sell half of what Part I sold because people were sick of the girl boss agenda. Double down with a bald-headed space lesbian saving a diversity-obsessed guy.’
It appears the reaction indicates a decreased enthusiasm and confidence in Naughty Dog’s guidance. Critics are voicing their opinions freely, suggesting that the game might not succeed as expected.
