As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for quality storytelling and a deep appreciation for the world of television, I am genuinely thrilled about the upcoming Sky original series, “Iris.” Having followed the captivating narrative of Game of Thrones, it’s intriguing to see two of its alums, Kristofer Hivju and Harry Lloyd, joining forces in a new venture. Their characters may have never crossed paths in Westeros, but their dynamic in this thriller promises to be as engaging.
Kristofer Hivju, known for his role as Tormund Giantsbane from Game of Thrones, and Harry Lloyd, who portrayed Viserys Targaryen, are teaming up for an exciting thriller series on Board Sky called Iris. Although their characters never interacted in the show due to Hivju joining in season three after Lloyd’s character was killed off in season one.
In an upcoming thriller directed by Breaking Bad’s Terry McDonough, we find an intriguing pairing of two characters from the same universe: Hivju portraying Jensen Lind, a tormented genius and brilliant scientist, alongside Brave New World actor as Hugo Pym, a secretive yet commanding figure. The ensemble also features Marco Leonardi, Angela Bruce, Lorenzo De Moor, among others.
The show centers on Iris Nixon, a genius without a permanent home, portrayed by Niamh Algar. She manages to snatch a secret code from Cameron McIntyre, a charismatic philanthropist (played by Tom Hollander), and then vanishes. As tension builds, we follow her desperate attempts to solve the enigma hidden within this coded message. This is according to the show’s official summary.
Beyond Algar, Hollander, Meréana Tomlinson, Sacha Dhawan (previously seen in Doctor Who), Maya Sansa, Peter Sullivan, and Debi Mazar, the previously announced cast for this upcoming production is set. In a chat with Variety, show creator Neil Cross characterized the film as “unabashedly thrilling,” fueling even more excitement among fans.
Additionally, he asserts that the “sun-bathed chase thriller” boasts an unprecedented lead character, one not seen before. Niamh Algar and Tom Hollander breathe life into these intricate personalities, while Terry McDonough’s guidance makes me eager to unveil this world and its inhabitants to you. The showrunner and writer revealed that with Iris, he aimed to craft a series that would captivate his own interest.
Cross is best known for his work in BBC’s series Luther starring Idris Alba, Ruth Wilson, Warren Brown, and others. The upcoming Sky original will be co-produced by Fremantle, while Wildside is providing production services in Italy.
Iris will be released on October 4 on Sky’s streaming platform.
