Galadriel and Adar SHOULD Join Forces in THE RINGS OF POWER Season 2 and Fight Sauron Together

As a long-time fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic saga, I find myself deeply intrigued by the complex characters that are unfolding in “The Rings of Power.” The intertwined journeys of Adar and Galadriel are particularly captivating, for they embody the struggle between light and darkness that lies at the heart of Middle-earth.

Since I first watched season one of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, I’ve been advocating for Adar, the series’ most captivating character, to experience an “enemy of my enemy is my friend” storyline and embark on his own heroic journey. With the second season almost upon us, it appears that my wish might finally come true. The final trailer for season two hints strongly at a growing understanding between Adar and Galadriel – a connection I’ve been yearning for since day one. As Sauron casts his sinister shadow over Middle-earth, the possibility of an unexpected alliance is tantalizingly within reach.

Despite the apparent discord between Galadriel and Adar, suggested by their difficult past, the impending evil from Sauron in “The Rings of Power” season two necessitates a potential alliance. The intricate similarities between them, resonating more profoundly than their disagreements, make this collaboration inevitable.

At first glance, it may appear that Galadriel and Adar, characters from The Rings of Power, have little in common. Galadriel embodies the essence of a high elf, known as the Lady of Light, and is deeply committed to upholding the differences between good and evil. Her primary goal is to eliminate darkness from Middle-earth permanently. In her view, Adar represents the heart of this darkness. Conversely, Adar was once an elf but has fallen from grace, corrupted over time by Morgoth and Sauron. He is now notorious as the progenitor of Orcs or Uruk, a race closely linked with evil.

Indeed, Galadriel might find it unsettling to discover any similarities with Adar, given their initial encounter. In this encounter, she labels him as “corrupted” and even suggests wiping out his entire brood. However, despite his own contempt, Adar appears to perceive something in Galadriel’s wrath towards him that she has yet to acknowledge within herself. In the sixth episode of The Rings of Power’s first season, he says to her, “It appears I am not the only elf still living who has been changed by darkness. Perhaps the hunt for Morgoth’s successor should have ended in your mirror.”

As a gamer immersed in the world of Middle Earth, I can’t help but reflect on the intriguing dynamics between Galadriel and Adar. While his observation about her being “transformed by darkness” might be partly accurate, it’s the other aspect that piques my curiosity here. You see, at that particular moment, Galadriel is as captivated by Sauron in his Halbrand form as she’ll ever be.

Without a doubt, Sauron caused great harm during the War of Wrath in The Lord of the Rings and afterward. However, none felt his malice as deeply as Galadriel and Adar. Both have encountered darkness, so to speak, and understood the sensation of loathing Sauron while still finding themselves drawn to him. It appears that Sauron’s connection with Adar served as a blueprint for his relationship with Galadriel in The Rings of Power. In both instances, it seems that Sauron aimed to corrupt an elf with noble intentions and compel them to serve him. Adar was perhaps an imperfect example, one who became excessively corrupted or damaged, but in Galadriel, the Dark Lord saw a counterpart – someone he wanted to “bind to the light.”

Even so, their narratives share striking similarities. Initially, Adar fell prey to corruption under Sauron’s influence, a topic we hope will be further explored in season two. However, when the agony of his offspring became unbearable, Adar severed their connection forcefully. In conversation with Galadriel, he states, “I split him open,” tinged with both pride and sorrow. “I killed Sauron.” Yet, it becomes evident throughout season one of The Rings of Power that Sauron persists within Adar. When Southlander Waldreg inadvertently addresses him as Sauron, he erupts in anger. Upon witnessing what appears to be a tribute to Sauron at Ostirith, he stands transfixed, both charmed and terrified for a prolonged moment. And despite the turmoil, he adheres to Sauron’s instructions and constructs Mordor by detonating Mount Doom.

Galadriel resolutely withstands Sauron’s temptations once she discovers his true form, leading to her attempted attack on him. However, her decision isn’t a straightforward one; it carries a heavy price. Her desires and loyalties seem to pull in opposite directions, yet her wisdom guides her actions. Ironically, she follows the plans Sauron himself had set for her, crafting the Elven Rings of Power. In essence, Galadriel and Adar walk parallel paths, each shaped by Sauron’s influence. Both reject him, but remain tied to him in a complex dance, unwittingly helping him achieve his goals. It’s only fitting that they join forces to vanquish him.

In essence, it appears from the trailers of “The Rings of Power” that both Adar and Galadriel are deeply affected by Sauron, as if he lingers in their thoughts. Gil-galad warns in the newest trailer that once Sauron gains a person’s trust, he can manipulate their mind. Adar also acknowledges this danger, stating that eventually, Sauron’s influence becomes all-consuming. It’s clear that both Galadriel and Adar have experienced this phenomenon, yet they’ve managed to resist him, albeit never completely freeing themselves from his grasp. This intricate character dynamic between the two, who seem to be the only ones in existence with such a history with Sauron, makes for an engaging storyline that is too complex and captivating to ignore.

Following the first season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” I expressed that Adar was a heartrending figure due to his solitary existence, being neither fully elf nor Uruk. However, it appears there might be additional elves tainted by darkness. Considering the profound similarities between their circumstances, it seems fitting for Galadriel and Adar to join forces in “The Rings of Power” season two. No longer isolated, but allied, they could stand together against Sauron, the one who gave them life in the first place.
