Viola Davis channels her inner action hero in Amazon Prime’s latest action-thriller, G20! Her character, President Danielle Sutton, faces a major national crisis when terrorists take over the G20 summit. In this hour of need, Sutton draws on her military and governance experience to plot a takedown of the attackers and protect her family, country, and the world.
In the trailer, we see Davis portrayed as President Sutton, extending invitations to world leaders for a summit. Accompanying her are her husband and daughter. But unforeseen intruders disrupt the global conference, prompting the leaders to rally their courage to engage in a genuine struggle against adversity.
Beyond depicting Sutton’s career challenges, the film delves into her complex bond with her defiant adolescent child, particularly how it transforms following a significant turning point in her life. Regarding her portrayal of the President, Davis found it to be an “engaging test.
On the movie set, it was common for her to remark, “I can’t perform that—I’m the President.” This statement highlights the significant stress that accompanies powerful positions, particularly for a woman who needs to manage being a mother, a spouse, and a person with intricate feelings all at once.
