Fundraiser Launched For Autumn Nelon After Loss Of Family In Plane Crash; Celebration Of Life Service Scheduled

As a long-time follower of The Nelons, this tragic news has left me heartbroken and deeply saddened. I have watched their journey for years, admiring their talent, resilience, and the bond they shared as a family. Their music has brought joy to countless people, and their legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved them.

Todd Nelon, Autumn Nelon‘s uncle, has arranged a fundraising event to help his niece financially after the unfortunate passing of her father, mother, and sister, who were all part of the renowned gospel group The Nelons, alongside Autumn. Last week, on July 26th, singers Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter Amber Nelon tragically passed away in a private plane crash in Wyoming, according to various news outlets. This loss has affected Autumn Nelon not only emotionally but also professionally.

“Todd Nelon expressed deep sorrow in a Facebook post on July 28, stating that their pain is immense and they’re finding it hard to breathe. He shared gratitude for the calls, messages, food, and especially the prayers, sent their way. Now, he humbly appeals for aid for his beloved niece, Autumn. The family is showering her with love, but she will also require financial assistance to cover funeral expenses, maintain the farm, two homes, and the wedding venue. This financial aid becomes crucial because not only has Autumn lost her loved ones, but also her means of livelihood.”

A celebration of life service is to be held for the departed members of The Nelons

Autumn posted on Facebook that a memorial service for Kelly, Jason, Amber, and her husband Nathan (who all perished in a plane crash) is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6th at 1:00 PM at the Roopville Road Baptist Church in Georgia. This service will also be broadcast live online.

In the unfortunate accident involving the plane carrying The Nelons en route to Alaska for the Gaither Homecoming Cruise on Friday, Autumn (who is expecting a baby) miraculously survived as she was not on board at the time. Sadly, Melodi Hodges, the family’s assistant, pilot Larry Haynie, and his wife Melissa were among those who lost their lives in this tragic incident. According to ABC News, it’s believed that the Pilatus PC 12/47E aircraft caught fire upon impact, which may have contributed to the severity of the accident.

The Nelon family ensemble included Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with their daughters, Amber and Autumn. However, it’s regrettable to note that only Autumn is still alive among them.

In an interview with nfwdailynews back in 2018, the head of the family shared that their gospel band had been making music for 42 years at that point, with his daughters representing the third generation to be involved in this longstanding endeavor. According to him, The Nelons were established in 1977 by his wife and her father, Rex Nelon – a renowned bass singer who was later inducted into the Hall of Fame.

In 2017, the band was honored with induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and received three Grammy nominations throughout their career. Among their most popular songs are “We Shall Wear a Robe and Crown,” “Come Morning,” and “I Shall Not Be Moved.” Tragically, their last release, “There’s a Hole in the Heart,” came out just hours before their passing. The band was also preparing to debut a new album called “Loving You” shortly.
