In the popular multiplayer survival crafting game, Dune: Awakening by Funcom, Player versus Player (PvP) action is a significant aspect. However, certain zones of Arrakis were designed to only allow Player versus Environment (PvE), ensuring tranquil interaction among players. This peaceful coexistence was disrupted on July 7, 2025, when the developers released an update, eliminating the protection from PvP in the Deep Desert.
Out of nowhere, the tranquil zone transformed into a chaos of Player-versus-Player combat, claiming numerous player lives, bases, and gear. Now, Funcom has issued an apology for this unfortunate event.
During the course of our project development and team communication, we made an unintended mistake which unfortunately resulted in many bases and equipment being lost, the studio admitted. We deeply regret this occurrence and understand that it should have been managed more effectively. To prevent such incidents in the future, we’ve revised our internal procedures and are committed to improving our performance.
In case players find themselves missing their items due to the confusion, they can anticipate receiving compensation for these lost goods. Funcom has confirmed that any reimbursed materials, items, and vehicle parts should appear in the ‘Reward Claim’ section of the game by the close of this week.
After wrapping up immediate post-launch support, the developers have outlined their upcoming priorities. A major focus is maintaining efforts to ban cheaters and enhance security measures against cheating and exploits. Furthermore, Funcom aims to implement quality-of-life improvements and troubleshoot issues related to lost items or vehicles due to bugs.
