FROZEN 4 Teased by Disney as FROZEN 3 Gets 2027 Release Window

As a gamer with a soft spot for Disney animations, especially the Frozen franchise, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation upon hearing about not one, but two more installments in the Frozen saga! Being at D23 this year was an absolute treat, and the confirmation of Frozen 3 and even Frozen 4 has me counting down the days until their release.

At D23’s 2024 event, which is a gathering for dedicated Disney fans, it was essentially confirmed that the studio is moving forward with plans for “Frozen 3” and possibly even “Frozen 4.” This comes as no shock to many, considering the massive success of “Frozen” at the box office (earning $2.76 billion worldwide) and its Oscar wins. Given the popularity of both the original and its sequel, it’s understandable that Disney wants to continue the story of Anna and Elsa in these upcoming films. TopMob was thrilled to be present at the event and share this exciting news with everyone.

Let’s hear what Jennifer Lee, writer and co-director of both “Frozen” and “Frozen 2,” had to share regarding future installments in the “Frozen” series.

Frozen 3 Gets a 2027 Release Date Window and First Concept Art

Before delving into “Frozen 4”, let’s revisit what we gathered about “Frozen 3” during D23. Initially scheduled for 2026, Disney has officially moved the release date of “Frozen 3” to 2027. As of now, an exact release date for “Frozen 3” hasn’t been disclosed yet. However, Jennifer Lee did unveil a sneak peek of the concept art. Regarding this art, Lee mentioned, “It encapsulates the moment shared by Anna and Elsa…everyone at Disney Animation is thrilled to return to this world.”

In the initial artwork for “Frozen 3” unveiled at D23, you’ll notice that Anna, Elsa, and Olaf are embarking on a new journey. Instead of a familiar landscape, they appear to be drawn towards a mystical world bathed in golden light, as if they were about to tread upon the clouds. It seems “Frozen 3” might take us to a magical realm nestled within the Aurora Borealis. However, lurking ominously behind them is a dark silhouette, which doesn’t exactly fill us with warmth. As of now, Kristoff is absent from this artwork for “Frozen 3”, but we’re confident he’ll make an appearance eventually. It’s also heartening to see more of Elsa’s enchanting water horse, the Nokk, who was introduced in “Frozen II”.

Frozen 4 Is All But Confirmed at D23

However, “Frozen 3” isn’t the only thrilling prospect for “Frozen” enthusiasts. There’s also strong hints that “Frozen 4” is on its way, as suggested at D23. Although Disney didn’t explicitly confirm “Frozen 4,” they certainly gave strong indications that there could be two more sequels in the franchise. And this isn’t the first time such speculation has arisen. Let’s examine a chronology of “Frozen 4” hints dropped by prominent Disney personalities.

November 16, 2023: Disney CEO Bob Iger Teases Frozen 4

In November 2023, the idea of a potential fourth installment in the “Frozen” series was brought up for the first time. During an interview on Good Morning America, Disney CEO Bob Iger hinted at not just one but two new “Frozen” films in development. He mentioned, “We’re working on ‘Frozen 3’, and there might also be a ‘Frozen 4’. However, I can’t share much about these movies right now.” Director Jennifer Lee, who created the original “Frozen” and its sequel, is currently developing not one but two stories for Disney animation. This marks the first time someone from Disney has explicitly mentioned ‘Frozen 4’, although it’s just one of several hints to come in the future.

November 23, 2023: Jennifer Lee, Chief Creative Officer of Disney Animation and Frozen Creator, Teases Frozen 3 and Beyond

Following Bob Iger’s initial hint about a potential fourth installment of Frozen, Jennifer Lee reiterated similar sentiments while discussing the upcoming third movie. When asked for updates on Frozen 3, Lee mentioned, “All we can say is what we’ve already shared, which is that our team is busy at work, we are incredibly enthusiastic about the story we’re developing together, and it’s so grandiose it might not fit within a single film.” This subtle hint from Disney suggests that the magnitude of Frozen’s next adventure could potentially require both Frozen 3 and Frozen 4 to fully capture its essence.

August 9, 2024: Jennifer Lee Once Again Hints Frozen 4 Is Basically Confirmed

While Lee didn’t explicitly confirm the existence of “Frozen 4” at D23 2024, she emphasized that the story of “Frozen 3” is so extensive it would need more than one film to fully explore it. In simpler terms, Lee suggested at D23 that due to numerous questions raised by “Frozen 2”, a minimum of two more “Frozen” movies will be required to provide answers. Although we may not find the number of questions left by “Frozen 2” particularly high, it appears Disney is confident they can persuade fans into watching at least two additional “Frozen” films.

In the meantime, we’ll wait for a Frozen 3 release date and official confirmation on Frozen 4.
