Mike White, who moved on from Survivor to create HBO’s The White Lotus, hasn’t forgotten his fellow castmates. In fact, the David vs. Goliath runner-up has subtly integrated contestants from the 2018 season of CBS’ reality show into every episode of his Emmy-winning series. These Survivor alums can be spotted as wealthy resort guests or casual staff members, and they’ve left their unique impact on locations all around the world.
Previously belonging to the Goliath tribe, Alec Merlino underwent a grueling five-hour ordeal during a survival test on Survivor before being eliminated by all contestants. In contrast, his time at The White Lotus was marked by leisure, as he played the role of Hutch, a resort bartender who enjoyed partying over working, appearing in a total of five episodes – more than any other Survivor participant.
As Angelina Keeley, formerly known for my chilly moment requesting a jacket following elimination on an island survival show, I’ve now exchanged rough terrain for lavish landscapes, portraying a wealthy beachgoer at The White Lotus’s Italian resort. My fellow Goliath tribemate Kara Kay, who was eliminated right before the final vote, also graced the screen in a brief yet fashionable beach appearance alongside me.
In Season 3 of The White Lotus, they extend the Survivor reunion by introducing Natalie Cole and Carl Boudreaux to the storyline. Previously eliminated from Survivor before the merge due to a vote instigated by White, Cole is portrayed as a stylish vacationer at a resort in Thailand. Boudreaux, who was initially cast on The White Lotus after being removed from Survivor on day 30 (again by White), also makes an appearance in the same scene, having been dismissed earlier from Survivor.
In each new installment of The White Lotus, creator Mike White often invites his Survivor cast members to join in the storyline. This could be a playful wink to their shared island history or simply an acknowledgement of their acting skills, and these appearances serve to enhance enjoyment for viewers who follow both shows. As The White Lotus progresses, fans are curious to find out which cast member from David vs. Goliath will appear in the following season.
