As a die-hard fan of Friends, it is simply heartwarming to hear David Schwimmer reminisce about his late co-star, Matthew Perry. The camaraderie between Ross and Chandler was undeniably one of the show’s highlights, and hearing Schwimmer talk about their on-set antics brings back a flood of nostalgic memories.
David Schwimmer, best recognized for his portrayal of Ross Geller on the legendary sitcom Friends, recently shared some thoughts about his late fellow cast member and actor, Matthew Perry. Known for his role as Chandler Bing in the series, Perry garnered numerous awards for his exceptional performance.
During an interview with Cush Jambo on his “Origins with Cush Jumbo” podcast, the actor reminisced about his interactions with the late comedian on the set of our shared sitcom. The voice behind Rapunzel in “Tangled” admitted to engaging in physical humor routines with the performer from “Fools Rush In,” who possessed a remarkable knack for humor and wit.
During the recording of a podcast episode, Schwimmer disclosed that in addition to their work on the Warner Bros. sitcom, they had also collaborated on The Good Fight. The podcast host posed a question to Schwimmer: “I was wondering if David is simply someone who effortlessly does it?” or “Does it just naturally flow from him?
He mentioned that you’re a key figure who sets the physical direction for a situation where others often rely on you for guidance. In this context, he believes that your absence would cause things to malfunction, which he found to be a very sincere and likely accurate compliment.
David Schwimmer, known for his role in Madagascar, reminisced about his time in theater, stating it honed his abilities in slapstick humor. Schwimmer shared that it was flattering when Matthew praised him, expressing surprise since Matthew had been rather reserved with him and hadn’t given such compliments directly. However, Schwimmer valued the kind words from Matthew.
In the course of his conversation, he pointed out that when creating films, particularly action sequences or humor based on physicality, every detail must be meticulously planned and rehearsed. He stressed that he always spent considerable time refining any physically comedic scenes to ensure they were polished to perfection.
Additionally, David Schwimmer shared that his experience in theater played a role in organizing the project’s format. Both Schwimmer and Matthew Perry are recognized for their roles on the popular 1994 TV series Friends, which also featured Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow. This beloved show will be commemorating its 30th anniversary on September 22.
Sadly, Matthew Perry passed away in October 2023 following a fatal ketamine overdose. In response, his fellow Friends cast members honored him by sharing touching tributes on their respective social media platforms.
